Coming out of hiding to say hello!
Hi!
I ususlly hang out on the main board, and lurk here, but thought it was time I said hello. My BFFF (Best soon to be Formerly Fat Friend) Cyd, posts here, so I thought I would join the fun.
Let’s see. I’m 35, single, no kids, and morbidly obese. But I’m working on that.
My start weight at my December consultation was 294. My weight on surgery day May 12th was 286. And my weight at my two month follow up Monday was 242.5. I kind of make myself crazy if I weigh every day, so decided that I would try to only get weighed at the doctor’s office. I don’t go back now until sometime in August for my 3 month follow up. Excited to see the pounds lost then!!
My biggest issue (this week – it changes all the time) is I’m just not hungry. I can eat small bits of tuna, salmon, or cheese at a time. Then the next day that same thing makes me want to throw up. My taste buds are a mess. I hope that passes as time goes by. The protein shakes aren’t my favorite thing, too sweet. But I still have one a few times a week to get in the protein.
I wouldn't change my choice for the world. Every day gets better, and I can finally see a future where I’m active and healthy. And I don’t even know the last time I was 242. Not any of the half dozen times I joined WW did I get that low. And I’m going to the gym at least 3 times a week. I almost don’t hate it. But, I don’t think I’ll ever be a gym rat. I had my stomach operated on – not my head! Lol.

Where in Philly are you? I am a Northeast girl born and raised and am raising my three kids here as well.
Take care and keep up the great work!
I just wanted to extend a warm welcome to PA boards! I love what you said that you had your stomach operated on not your head keep that in mind everytime you fall off the wagon then pick yourself up and start all over again. That is what successing is all about! Don't just be a lurker post all the time that is how we all learn by sharing, venting and encouraging. AND always remember that you are more than a number on a scale so 242lbs does not define you it's who you are on the inside and how you make other people feel that should define you. Okay I am getting off my soap box now. LOL. Seriously you will do great. Welcome!
Welcome to the PA Board (LOVE your name, by the way!) and glad to see you posting. You are doing really, really well so far - congratulations!
The appetite and changing tastes are VERY normal for the first 6 months or so. Just remember to keep track of what you are consuming every day from a nutrient perspective - logging or journaling will help with that. So if you find yourself turned off by meat proteins for a few days, you know you have to make it up within that day with some other type of protein (tofu, greek yogurt, nonfat dairy, etc.)... Food is your medicine now... you "take it" in the right doses and combinations to keep you healthy.
As to the gym, the key is to just keep yourself moving. Finding things that you genuinely ENJOY (whether it's a dance class, karate, yoga, running, swimming, walking the dog, horseback riding, or whatever) will promote a life of being active. WLS doesn't mean you have to become a gym rat who spends hours on the elliptical every day... it just means that you have to find ways to be ACTIVE in your life. Explore new things and as your weight drops and your energy level and fitness level increase, you'll find thing that you never expected to enjoy! Be open to the possibilities and you'll find some wonderful surprises out there within your new reach.
Again, welcome to the forum!
