Failed(?) PATs
My PAT appointment last week did not go well. It took 5 hours and at the end there were still questions that remain unanswered. As expected my A1C was a little too high (not much) and I learned that I had gallstones and some EKG abnormalities. I have elected to postpone surgery for a month, get my A1C down, and consider where to go from here while I wait to hear from Barix on the results.
Aside from the bad news and the difficulties I had with the admitting physician (do any docs have a good bedside manner?), the appointment went fairly well. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Did you have problems with the physician at Barix? I don't recall his name or him being all 'warm and fuzzy' but he didn't bother me - maybe because I was too nervous to notice? But remember, they are doing this for your health and safety, so try not to let his lack of personality or bedside manner bother you.
Keep us posted on how you're progressing...Kathy
Now as for the test results: these can simply guide you on your next steps. Don't quit. Don't give up. The A1C is something you can work on.
Ask Dr. Boe how to proceed with the gallstones and EKG issues.
Did you have a stress test or stress echocardiogram as one of your insurance requirements? I had to do this and if you have not had it, seeing a cardiologist would certainly shed some additional light.
Hang in there!

I had all kinds of road blocks getting to my surgery date. I didn't have my surgery at Barix, but pretty much went through all the same tests, and hurdles that the Barix surgeons also put their patients through.
It took me from July of 2008 until Sept of 2009 for me to have my surgery. Hang in there it will happen!

The gallstones probably won't be an issue - they may even remove the gallbladder when they do your surgery.
The A1C - better for healing if it's within normal, less risk for infection. Best to get better under control.
The EKG - definately warrants looking into. Abnormal and cardio = bad juju as my husband would say. Call your PMD and get a cardiologist if you don't already have one.
My surgery was cancelled at my PAT's because they found a thyroid disorder I was previously unaware that I had. I went on meds, got it corrected, and had surgery a month after I was originally scheduled. I wasn't to fond of the doc - but he's not the one doing your surgery, so don't sweat it.
