TMI-- HELP!! Plan B?
Ok, quick TMI-- Hubby and I may have had a birth control malfunction. Of course, as is my luck, I am precisely at the right time of my cycle to conceive (or wrong time since I am only 8 months out from surgery and not cleared). I have been tracking cycles for years since we have spent 5 years trying to conceive and recently I believe I started ovulating again, etc. So, does anyone know if we can take Plan B? Do I need to consider a double dose due to malabsorption issues?
Of course it is Sunday and I cannot call the Doctor until Monday, but Plan B is most successful when taken within 24 hours I understand.
I hate this-- we want a child but not until I am cleared to start trying. It is too soon!!! Arrggghhh

I agree with Nicole, you can always call the Pharmacist.
That being said, you can have a healthy baby at 8 months out. NO it is not recommended and NO I am not condoning trying before you are cleared but if you are indeed pregnant you can get through this and have a healthy baby.
Good luck
Liz
PS - most surgeons recommended using 2 methods of BC for the first year - a barrier method (condoms etc) and a hormonal method (pills, patch, shots etc)

Thanks for the input Liz and Nicole. We were using two but my body had an aversion to the Nuva Ring and my primary wanted to wait for my cycle to regulate after that experience before starting me on a pill. We experienced an unexpected break in barrier method and so I am a bit freaked. My husband thinks I am overreacting but Dr. B. made a huge impression on me about not getting pregnant too early when I was still pre-op. I talked to three Pharmacists and a nurse and left messages for my primary. Basically, no one really knows, so . . .
Guess we will see. I feel like I am 19 again and worried about conception. I don't really like the feeling, lol. Anyway, Thanks again!

Well, I never heard back from my primary. I took Plan B Sunday and talked to my surgeon's office on Monday. They think I did everything I could and they don't anticipate any malabsorption issues, but "we just don't know" because there aren't any studies that show. So, we shall see . . . Fingers and toes are crossed at the moment.
