OK folks, I know it's hot out there, but that's no excuse!  Who's moving today?!

I got to the gym and did an interval run this morning (2 minutes slower, 1 minute FAST, alternating) in my bare foot runners, followed by kicking, stretching, and weights.  Totally rocked the whole sweaty/stinky thing by the time I was done.  My body feels GOOD now!  Tomorrow?  We'll see how it feels ;-).

So how about you?

I'm moving today!!

Gym tonight with my buddy for Body Pump followed by that awesome Yoga class.  I can't wait to come out of there feeling calm and relaxed.  Quiet time in the car on the way home will happen again if I have to put duct tape on the girl.. LOL!!

Good for you, Lisa - I hope it lives up to your expectations yet again!  Maybe you could get Siehara to take it too, so she's in her own quiet zone and doesn't interrupt yours?  (or, then again, the duct tape can work)  ;-)

she's too young.  I would love for her to be able to do some of these classes with me.  She would be great at Zumba and could probably show me a few things.  I would also bring her into yoga and pilates.  I think she has to be 14 there.

looks like I better stop for some duct tape.

I've decided that I need to really get in more exercise pre-surgery.  So today, I did 2 miles with Ms. Leslie Sansone in my nice cool livingroom.  My knees are a bit sore, but I have to suck it up and just do it.  Call me crazy, and people do, but I love getting up early to exercise rather than later in the day.  I just need to get my butt into the gym again.  Get myself back on the elliptical.  I was doing 40 minutes there and 20 minutes on a stationary bike.  I can't do it every day because of my knees but I REALLY need to commit to every other day.  I can do this, right?!?!?!?!

You absolutely CAN and WILL do this!!  Congrats on the new found dedication.  It's easy to get derailed...before or after surgery....but this group is awesome at keeping you on track!!!  Just make sure you don't over do it early out....keep yourself safe and healthy

Thank you for the vote of confidence.  My plan tomorrow is to do some weights.  I have 3, 5 & 10 lb weights here at home.  I'm gonna start with the 3's and see how I feel after that.

Thanks again.

Yes, you CAN... and it will make all the difference in how you feel and how easily you recover from your surgery.  Just start out with a gentle walk, but push yourself just a little faster or a little farther each day.  You'll be surprised at how soon you feel (and see!) the results.

If your knees are bad, take a good look at your shoes.  They can have a HUGE impact on your knees and ankles.  It's worth going to a good, specialty athletic shoe store and having a consultation.

Personally, I've recently switched over to "barefoot" running shoes (there are several brands available) because they have a significantly lower incidence of injuries to ankles, feet, knees, back, etc.  You do need to work up to them, but now that I have (it took about a week - worked on my calves, big time!), my walking and running feels so much more "gentle" and my knees and back don't hurt at all!  There's some really good science behind them, as well.

http://barefootrunningshoes.org/ has a good overview - I have the "Vibram 5-fingers" ones... Harvard Sports Medicine has a good overview as well: harvardscience.harvard.edu/foundations/articles/barefoot-run ning-easier-feet-running-shoes

Hope this helps!

Shoes and sneakers are the one thing I have invested because of my knee problems.  I also have terrible problem with plantars ficitis (again with the spelling?)  Right now I am loving my Easy Spirit Anti Gravity sneakers and sandles.  They are like walking on a cloud.

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement.

Good for you for doing the Leslie Sansone.  I like her workouts for when I'm in the house.  My daughter and I can do them together.  It's a great workout.  If I could workout in the morning, I would.  I just can't do it with my work schedule.  It really gets you moving and energized for the day.

You can do every other day or every 3rd day or whatever works for you.  As you lose weight and get in better shape, you will be able to do more.

Keep up the great work!
