Hi everyone!  I have been considering writing this post for quite a while now but hadn't made the time to do it till now.  I am a big fan of reading the older posts to increase my knowledge and experience, and while doing so I have noticed a few things.  First off, there seemed to be a lot of people that used to be very active on this board that just aren't around anymore.  I'm sure that they hung around for the first year or two after their surgery and they did well and they just moved on.  I don't begrudge them that right, there's no law that says you have to be an active member for the rest of your life.  No worries, good luck, and stay healthy.

So, after this realization I also noticed that there are some members that were around then and they are STILL around NOW!  I wrote this thread for those people.  I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all of you who are still around on this board even after 2,3,4,5 years!  The dedication, commitment, support, and experience you give is very much appreciated and necessary.  If it wasn't for you this board wouldn't be as successful as it is.  Seriously!  i hope I can follow in your footsteps some day and keep paying it forward like you do.

I THANK YOU AND APPLAUD YOU!

You just can't get rid of some of us! lol This site was SO helpful for me after my surgery (I didn't know about it until one of the nurses at Barix told me post-op) that I can't help but pass on what I have learned (much of it the hard way! lol) to people who can use it.

I know all too well how overwhelming things can be leading up to surgery and the first year there after. I just hope that someone else can learn from what I have and make themselves healthier and happier in the process.

You are going to do great with this journey Swede!

As a 2+ year veteran I appreciate your post - and I stick around here because even at over 2 years out the support I get on here is CRUCIAL to me staying on track and keeping myself focused on my overall health (and weight loss). Life gets in the way sometimes and I have to excuse myself for a bit, but I try to post that and always come back. All you guys are my 'shrinks' - the oldsters and the newbies - everyone has different information to share and a fresh outlook on how our lives have changed - we're different - we're surgically altered - our innards are never going to be 'normal' but for those of us who have ventured into this world it was our last and only hope of shedding the pounds we lugged around all those years and our chance at better overall health and being able to fit back into the 'normal' world.

You are already committed to these boards and that's fantastic - it is going to go a long way in your successing as well. And for myself I love it when the newbies come on board because trust me, I get down on myself sometimes - think I need to be doing more or losing more or just losing interest - but then I see a fresh new avitar or new post and see how excited you guys are and I remember how excited I was when I first made the decision to do this - how I broke down in tears when I finally got my surgery date - and this is the best part...

How when I was in Barix the day of my surgery two women from these boards who I had NEVER met in real life came in to visit me at the hospital!! I was astounded and it taught me just how much everyone out here means to each other

So this is it, bud - we're a family - good, bad or indifferent (or dysfunctional!) you're stuck with us now!! And we're glad you're part of the amazing journey we're all going on.

Swede,

It is nice to read your post and I am one of many who are 2+ years out and while I don't post as often, I still come back to stay connected and recently realized how much I miss all of the people who were so connected in the days leading up to and as you so well put the first year or so afterwards. . . the amazing thing is that many are still around, post-WLS life brings many rewards beyond the obvious ones, we get into really living our lives, but one very real statement is that this post-WLS life still needs to be lived in a manner that was closely adhered to when we walked out the doors of whatever facility it was that we had our surgery and for me that includes being a part of this great circle of support, which is why, as my life permits I am posting more often!

Best wishes for your own successing process. . .

Laureen

Yup...I'm another going on 3 years...actually...it might already be three years since I have joined the site...as I was active before the surgery on this board.  It's what got me through all PATs and what not...even the cancellation of my surgery due to an unknown thyroid problem they found day of PATs

I echo everyone else...this board has been INSTRUMENTAL to my success, and I only feel right "paying it forward".

The recipricol, however, is also true for me.  Having new members coming in, asking questions, feeling that enthusiasm continues to be MY inspiration on a daily basis.  As time from surgery increases, there is a lack of "newness" as you will...things become routine...wow moments are few and far between....and there are times that passion just...isn't quite there.  You "forget" (or choose to ignore) some of the rules...and answering questions brings that back.  Newer members enthusiasm can be sooooo infectious and that is wonderful.

Also, there are always new techniques, new ideas, new thoughts which you guys pass onto us, which is invaluable.

So, thank YOU as well!  And, I sincerely appreciate your words of thanks and encouragement!

Will be 4 years out in October. Some people do move on they no longer need this. I still do. These people are my family. I have not figured it out yet. I don't post as much as I used to, but each and every person here knows that I am here for them at any time.

thanks for the appreciation
