day 4 after surgery
I came home yesterday to a supportive family. I immediately got a pedi and mani! That felt good and came with a lower leg massage and one of those massaging chairs for the back. I slept well although I was up a few times to pee but didn't need any meds to sleep. Does anyone else find that there is less pain while sleeping? How long did it take you to get rid of that "punched in the stomach" feeling? I just upped my does of tylenol meltaways from 2 to 3 tabs.
Thanks in advance for all of your support!!
Congrats on having your surgery!!! Glad you came home to a lot of support and pampering!!
I had a lot of pain for the first week or so. The worst of my pain was over my ribs on the left side, and that was the last area to feel better. I took 2 weeks off from work and felt pretty good when I went back. We all heal differently and at different rates, so you may feel great before too long.
Good luck!!

Welcome home!
The pain for me lasted at least 1 1/2 weeks...I had a brief "repreive" from it if you will and then at 3 weeks out..it came back seemingly out of no where. I'm wondering if I hadn't over done it without realizing it that early out (which, with my stubborn nature, is totally conceivable, lol) The worst pain for me was on the lower left side. "Like a little man is standing there with a burning hot poker" is how someone once described it to me, and that was dead on.
The tylenol - are you using childrens melt aways or juniors? I'm assuming the juniors. Just as any FYI for adult dosing:
CHILDRENS MELTAWAYS: 4-8 meltaways (that would be like 1-2 regular tylenol)
JUNIOR MELTAWAYS: 2-4 meltaways (that would be like 1-2 regular tylenol)
Both of those equations = 325mg-650mg of tylenol which is the reccommended adult dosing on the bottle for aches, pains, fevers etc.
When you get up during the night, force yourself to walk for at least a few minutes and do some breathing exercise, and keep that up during the day as well!
With how incredibly hot it is today and probalby the next few days...and the fact that you may have trouble getting in all your liquid, make sure to stay inside and cool so as not to dehydrate!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
Thank you Julia and Pam!
Pam - I'm using the Jr. Meltaways. Pupkova said 2 but 2 just weren't cutting it and the package says 4. I figured I'll work my way up to it if needed
Hubby has been working all morning on getting the treadmill set up in our bedroom with the new TV I had him buy on the day of my surgery. I walked the dog early this morning before the heat but the tenderness is slowing me down. I am staying active around the house though. Does that count?

Hello,
You didn't post your name. My name is Beth and I had my surgery a year ago with Dr. P. She is awesome at what she does. Whatever she tells you to do DO IT!! Especially in the beginning. The movement exercises really help move that gas out. While others in the hospital with me were suffering, I was doing great! Everytime I got up to walk I did those exercises right before and then took my dance partner(My IV bag holder thingy) and went on my way!
I remember having a lot of pain on the left side also, but that is were they do most of the work! By the time I went home I was feeling pretty good. I took a leave of absence from work as a teacher and spent the summer focusing on eating, drinking, taking meds, walking, swimming, etc.It was several months after surgery that I was able to sleep on my left side. Believe it or not I sometimes still feel some soreness on that side when I sleep on it. That could also be the weight loss as well.
BTW, Any activity counts! The more the better just don't overdo! If you feel pain, rest. Make sure to get up once an hour and do something. Do your breathing exercises, and sip, sip, sip...
Good luck on your journey!
Beth

Great job Kristine!! I used to have my daughter do my exercises with me too! My husband was home with me for the first couple of days and he was my drill sergeant. I was glad to see him go back to work!!
Post as often as you can. You will get a lot of support here!!
Hope to meet you.

Wahoo.....So glad you are home and doing relatively well! I had significant gas pain for the first week and a half. Once I got back to school, I was fine - I was on my feet - so that moving thing actually works - damnit! I wanted to just feel better without any exertion. Hey - I guess that is what got me into trouble in the first place! :) Anyway - glad everything went well and looking forward to sharing this journey with you! :)
