my appointment with the new surgeon
So, I just got back from the surgeon's office. First of all, I liked his demeanor, very calm, personable, understanding..
He looked through my charts and told me that I'm actually not doing badly. He said that most people lose between 60-80% of their excess body weight in the 1st year and I lost 63%. He said yes, it is at the low end, but it's still within the range. He said that I CAN lose more weight if I stick with the program. Their dietician is going to call me to set up an appointment so I can get "a program"
He said he doubts very much that my pouch is stretched, but if I want to he will go down with a scope and look. I think I will wait and see what happens after I meet with the dietitian and try some new things. He also said to keep exercising and maintain my 1100-1200 calories a day. He agrees that with the strength training I have done, that some of my pounds are now muscle and that as long as my shape is changing, I am doing well.
He also said that if I maintain the weight I am at now, it really would not be an issue, but he can understand why I would want to lose more. It is not impossible, but will definitely be harder this far out. The hospital offers a back to basics program that is 6 weeks in length, but they are revamping the program and probably won't have another class starting until the end of the year.
I think that I will be ok once I talk to the dietitian and get a plan. I am still working on my own trying to get my head on straight.. they also have a psychologist there if I need it.
Doc also suggested if I feel hungry in between meals (he is also a 3 meals a day guy), to try to add fiber to my water when I water log. That should help to fill the gap.
I'm feeling more positive and will do everything in my power to follow what the dietitian tells me once I see her.

Lisa,
I am glad that your visit went well. I agree with him that you can still lose the excess weight if you wanted to. I also do not believe that you have stretched your pouch as you are not that far out. You are doing everything right and believe me the weight will drop off. Ask Nan she has lost 60lbs since October and only has 10lbs to get to goal. I am so happy for her but also a little jealous:(
Love you Nan!

Glad you got some positive reinforcement from this new doctor and he didn't just want to jump right in and do more surgery or anything. This is life - we get complacent - we get used to our pouches - I get stuck in a food rut because I'm too damn lazy to try new things. I know I push my pouch at times and that's when I know it's not 'stretched' and I could be losing more weight too - if I got off my lazy butt and worked out more and shook my meal plans up.
Sounds like you're doing great - I think I eat more out of boredom than anything else - and that's not good either!
