When does my body know when to stop???
Good Morning all, I have had a few people ask me "so when does your body know when to stop loosing weight"? I more or less blew it off however, I found myself asking the same question! I stepped on the scale this morning and to my surprise I have 28 pounds to go till I reach my goal!!! My thoughts are I am only 7 months out and I remember my doctor telling me that I would continue to loose weight for the first year, and my weight loose will taper off after the first 6 months, I see no slowing, I eat about 3/4 of a cup of food when I eat, I dont graze through out the day, I work out 6-7 days a week, which has become part of my daily life, I can feel the difference when I take a day off. If I continue this, I suspect I will loose more then I really want to or should. I am in a size med shirt and 12 pants, because I am 5'7" I dont want to look like the walking dead and become too small. Hummm so when does my body know when to stop?
Hey Patty,
Try not to fret to much over this....
I hit goal by 11 mos - and I ended up dropping below goal weight by about 5 pounds. I definately did not like how I looked at that point in time...those 5 pounds made a HUGE difference. However, within a few weeks (maybe a month?), WITHOUT CHANGING ANYTHING about my food, exercise, etc, my body naturally went back up by 5-7 pounds. I admit I did look drawn when I was below goal...but I had also looked drawn in various other stages of losing. It seems my body needed to "redistribute" itself.
When I hit goal, my nutritionist told me to DECREASE the amount of protein I was getting in per day (I went from 70gm to 50gm), and I added in more whole grains/carbs.
And now that I'm 2 1/2 years out...I've gained 5-7 pounds back and need to get it off - so it's a constant changing rollercoaster ride.
Congrats on doing SOOOO well!
Pam

Hi,
What a great question.
I just hit goal last week and have been wondering about the same thing. I was very low on calories in the 700-800 range and now have increased my calories to the 1300-1500 range. I got on the scale and lost another lb today putting me one lb under goal. So, I have been thinking about the same thing. Although I would not mind dropping another 5 lbs slowly, I am more concerned about maintaining. One thing I have noticed over the past week is that the scale will fluctuate a pound or two. I try to adjust for it by lowering the calories a little the next day.
I do like Pam's response though as I am hoping that it will even out on its own.
I use to weigh 9 lbs less than I am now and I was really super skinny and perhaps a little guant.
Thanks for posting the question.

This is my concern also. I got on the scale today and am down to 122lbs. I am starting to hear from people that I have lost to much, 2 of them being from the medical community. They have pushed off my 6 month appointment twice, I will finally get to that appointment on July 6th. I really think that the goal my surgeon gave me was way to low for me at 105lbs, I am 5' 1", and I am not a small frame, but a medium. I am now at a normal bmi. I guess I will just have to wait and see. But I am right there with you wondering when it will slow, or stop all together.
