anti-inflamatory medication

Once again I'm frustrated with Dr. Boe's staff! I need a 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinion.....I was treated today for plantar fasciitis and the doc wants to put me on an anti-inflamatory. Of course I say I can't take them but let me call the surgeon to see if there is anything similar you can prescribe. I called, and spoke to staff and was told no no no. Only tylenol. I'm not frustrated that I didn't get the answer that I wanted but that they offer nothing more than a NO. I just can't believe there isn't something else we can take. I did a search and found that some GBS docs allow pt's to take ARTHROTEC. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with this med?

Thank you in advance for your response.

Teresa,
Sorry that you are not getting the appropriate responses from Dr. Boe's office but I have battled RA my entire adult life and have been on Arthrotec and it is an NSAID something we should not be having post WLS. Sorry to be bearer of bad news:(

Teresa, I went in recently for what I thought was PF or cellutis of the foot too.  (Doc says I overdid the treadmilling so to take a rest on it for a bit, I don't necessarily agree though.)  Anywho, she also prescribed NSAIDS and when I told her I couldn't take them (she never remembers I had GBP) she shrugged and said then do Tylenol.   I do know (though not prescribing) that some GBS surgeons allow NSAIDS on a very limited basis along w/protonix or something for the pouch til the inflammation reduces and then back onto Tylenol asap.    Personally, I've been having acid issues lately so I'm not pushing the envelope and sticking with Tylenol.  Must say I am taking alot of it and have to have it to sleep so I can't see where that's much good for me either.  If you get a better answer, pass it along.  I'll do likewise.

Thanks Jackie,

Will do. I hope you bounce back soon.

Shilpa, are you saying that you are not taking the arthrotec now for your RA?

T,
I am not on arthrotec not necessarily because of WLS but because I am beyond NSAIDS I now am on methotrexate and Humira Injections. They literally had saved my life. I agree with Jackie some doctors including my rhumethologist agree that we can occasionally take NSAIDS but to chase it with prevacid or prilosec. I have to make a confession I have taken NSAIDS after WLS but always chase them with tums or prilosec. I hope this helps you.

I am 1 year post-op for RNY and my GP put me back on Arthrotec because I have arthritis in my spine, and my quality of life was awful without it. I took Arthrotec before my surgery also. I stayed off of it for 6 months after RNY but couldn't handle the pain anymore. My GP has me take Nexium with it to protect my pouch. He said the surgeon might not agree with this choice but he feels it is safe. So far I have  not had any problems with it for the last 6 months. I always take it on a full pouch and make sure to take the Nexium too.

Hope this helps.

Pupkova does not like, by any means, any use of NSAIDS...but she has told me the same as some of the others...that if I take it on rare occassions, take it with food, and take pepcid etc (not just WITH the dose but also for a day or so afterwards)

Of course..I'm supposed to tell you to do only what Dr. Boe's staff says...but....

Teresa,

My doctor gives me prednisone for things like my rotator cuff injury.  I had PF pre op and the only thing that cured it was cortisone shots.  Painful as hell, but it did the trick.  I had been through everything from chiropractors to inserts in my shoes and nothing worked until we did the cortizone.
