June 12th - Cooking Class!
Hi Karen,
I am determined to try to make a cooking class so I can finally meet all the wonderful people from this site, so my question is would it be too much if I bring my kids? They are 5, and my twins are almost 4. They can be a handful and I would totally understand if bringing 3 kids would be too much. Also, how far are you from Philly?
Thanks!
Your kids are welcome! We have plenty of yard to play in and plenty of room inside to play, as well. Eric's bringing his girls, so they will have company.
Doylestown's about an hour outside of center city... depends on where you're coming from. I can give you directions, but my address is 3315 Spruce Drive, Doylestown PA 18902 if you want to google map it.
Hope to see you!
Karen
What do you bring? My wife and I would love to go to a class and meet other small pouch people. Plus she is having a hard time figuring out what to make me that she can eat.
You are about three hours away from us but I will see if she is up for the drive. We can stay the night in a Marriott before heading home. (I have tons of hotel points from traveling so its free.)
We have the cooking classes on a monthly basis, usually at Liz Radlbeck's house just outside of Easton. Since she just had Amelia, I'm hosting for a couple of months instead.
Generally, people will bring ingredients to fix something, bring a dish that's already prepared, or just bring themselves (not everyone is cooking-inclined). Anything you bring, please bring (or forward to me in advance) recipes to share... you'll get a packet of recipes for everything we have that day. Donations are completely optional and anonymous - there will be a jar out for anyone who wishes to donate to help offset the cost of "standard" supplies (like flour, sweeteners, milk, etc.). You can also just bring a recipe and let me know in advance what the supplies will be for it and i'll make sure we have everything in.
The class is not "formal" - it's a combination support group, pot luck, and cooking class. Lots of great eating (not everyone is a WLS patient - some are family members/supporters/friends) and laughter. Folks usually hang out for a few hours - starts at noon and people have usually mostly trickled out by 4 or 5, but there's not really a time limit on it.
The closest Marriott properties to us are about 8 - 9 miles away. Towne Place Suites in Horsham or the Residence Inn in Montgomeryville are the two closest properties.
Hope to see you and your wife!

I will chat with Loree and figure out where she is and get her to a cooking class. I am one determined lady! :)
Can't wait!
After posting I realized that my aunt said she is coming up for a visit, BUT she said she was flying out on Saturday and she usually flies out early, so there is a darn good chance I will be there! I am so excited!!! And thanks so much for letting me bring the kids...they love having a chance to play with others.
Will need to check with "the master of the grill" and see if he is going to make it and vie for grate time at the grill with Eric.
I have been wanting sausage, so I think that this is the perfect time to give homemade sausage a try. I have a meat grinder, so I can control what goes in to them...... It will be the first time I make it, so if you are all ok with being testers... I think I'll do it.
Am looking forward to it.
Karen,
I like the summer salads idea! Dee and I should be able to be there. I don't have anything else going on although my June calendar is filling up quickly. Can't wait to see everyone!!
Miss you guys
Beth
