Speed Bump...Arghhhhh

Today, I hit a speed bump in the days leading up to surgery.  Surgery is planned for 6/8 but yesterday I had my preadmission testing and now today I get a call from the office (Dr. Holland) that my EKG came back abnormal.  I now must go see a Cardiologist before surgery can take place.  I get that and that's a good thing, however know I am worried and scared by what the abnormal EKG is about and if it is something minor or major and just how it may affect surgery from taking place as scheduled.

Try not to worry too much.  Its good that they are being cautious.

Lydia, you have the right attitude.  It is just a speed bump.  A minor setback that could turn out to be nothing at all.  It's great that they go through all of these things before surgery.  If they didn't, then who knows what would happen once they had you on the table.

If it turns out to be something that will push your surgery back a bit, think of it as a blessing in disguise.  You will get your surgery.

Swede posted a similar issue the other day.. look back at his post and you'll see the same types of responses that I know you will get to your post.

Hang in there!

Lydia, I also had to get a cardiac clearance. The doc I saw was quite thorough, knowing that I was approaching bariatric surgery, and her exam showed no problems. BUT....she still recommended a stress echocardiogram (like a stress test with more wires) just to be 100% SURE that she reported everything the insurance company would want/need to hear.

So ask about that - if any further tests are necessary.

Good luck! Remember - speed bumps just slow you down a touch!

It is just a speed bump, and better to be safe than sorry. More than likely it is nothing. I have had several abnormal EKG and it never amounted to anything. Good luck

I wouldnt worry too much about it.  I have to go through the same thing and I figure better safe than sorry.  I fortunately have more time than you as my surgery isnt until july 29.  Stay focused and take care of yourself and give yourself peace of mind.  Let me know how things turn out for you and I will do the same.
