One of my pre-op tests was an EKG.  I had it done on the 17th.  I got a letter in the mail yesterday from my surgeon telling me that the EKG was abnormal.  Apparently I have a Right Axis Deviation.  So, I have to have a full cardiac workup to make sure im ok for surgery.  My cardio appointment isnt unti June 17th.  im not too woried becaus I did look reasons why that happens and it seems that it is much more prominant in taller individuals.  I think 6'5" qualifies.  I hope thats the reason why.  I will let all you wondeful people know the results later on.  thanks for listening.

hopefully that's all it is.. keep us informed.

Wait, a letter? They didn't call you?  I guess that means it's not really an issue.

Hang tight and keep thinking positive.  I will do so as well!!

Just remember - you will be in the best shape of your life as you go in for surgery -be thankful that the doctors take every precaution...you will do great and be TOTALLY ready for this new chapter!  I am so glad that I am part of it! :)

Hey there Swede,

Sounds like a minor issue - and a full cardiac workup is never a bad thing to have under your belt (if only as a baseline for later testing).  Isn't RAD where your heart is on the right instead of the left side of your chest?  If so, kinda odd that none of your docs would have picked it up before when listening for your heart... or when you've had prior chest x-rays.  So perhaps it's REALLY a minor deviation.
I dunno - we'll have to hear Pam weigh in on it.

At any rate, best of luck!

Sorry to hear you've hit a bump in the road, but I always think it's best they find stuff early.  And you're still headed toward your goal of being healthy!  Don't let this get you down---a lot of us have hit snags along the way, and it works out.  Due to pre-existing condition, I had to wait a year for surgery, and that time flew by.  This WILL work out!!!  Keep us posted!!!

Thanks guys!!!  I really do appreciate all of your support.  Im not too worried about this.  I had a stress test in 2007 and more than a couple of ekg's since then and this never came up.  That leads me to believe that its not something too significant.  I will have the work up and just go from there.

Keeping you in my thoughts. I have to say that I love your attitude. You are staying so positive and that is more than half the battle right there. I am sure that things will work out. I always thought that in situations like this the doctor being EXTRA careful is a very good thing. You will be on the other side of surgery before you know it. And please keep us updated with any results you get.
