Body signals to stop eating
Yes, you are making sense! And yes...the mint gum helps - I do it too!
I once read someone who had the same feelings and changed her thinking to "My pouch is working!" from "I feel sick"...hence why I say you make sense!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses. ![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/thumbsup2.gif)

I like the pouch working rather than the sick feeling, Pam. That's really good. I'll have to remember that. I was sick the first year or more after surgery, so I don't think too much of it. I had two surgeries after the bypass to correct the problem. Anyhow, I recently had an upper GI. The doc told me that my pouch is in tip-top shape and working fine. In other words, it's ME that needs to work now! LOL
I think it would be quite entertaining to put you all at the same table and then just sit back and wait to see and hear all of the hiccups, sneezes, runny noses and food spitting. You all paint quite the picture. LOL. Although I hope I end up with some type of physical cue to shut it down, such a tool will be most helpful.

It'll be nice to add a baritone sound to the rest of our soprano noises!! And trust me, you'll have plenty - my granddaughters were with me when I first started back on soft foods following surgery and I was trying to each a baked potato and the belching started - my oldest, Lacee, said 'Wow Grandma, you ROCK those burps!!' - they loved it, much to their mother's embarrassment - didn't embarrass me one bit!
Some of us will have to measure for the rest of our lives. I do not get physical signals, haven't since about 9mos. out. I can just keep shoveling it in, hence my weight gain.
You MUST work the SYSTEM for the TOOL you were given. Like JoJo said, when you are eating, talking, watching TV, tending to kids, doing anything at the same time you should be solely looking at your plate and setting up for the next bite, you can just miss the food going in. That's a horrible habit, pre-op or post-op. Sometimes I look at my plate and wonder, did I eat everything? I don't remember and I don't feel full. So what do I do?? go get some more. WRONG!!!! BAD!!!! Start with a measurement. When it's done, it's done. Walk away.
Count your blessings you feel yucky.

Lynn,
Hiccups and burps for me! It has been kind of weird because the last couple of weeks I have been eating and not getting the hiccups or burps. The last couple of days I have been getting full a lot quicker and eating more frequently like I did in the beginning. I have been in a stall the last couple of months, so maybe my body is getting back into gear. Hope so!!
