Body signals to stop eating

Just wondering...how does your body signal you to stop eating?

Early out, I went strictly by measuring my food.

Later, i realized that I would have a very small hiccup when it was time to stop.

This weekend, though, I cooked nice meals (scallops on Sat., grilled burgers on Sun.) and both times, just HIT THE WALL during the meal and couldn't take another bite...couldn't look at my plate another second...felt repulsed by even being close to any more food! The scallops filled me up VERY quickly. I probably had 3 oz. of hamburger before the same thing happened.

I wasn't sick, but...yucky feeling!

How about you?

So funny because my bestie and I both have physical signals.

She begins to hiccup. She knows to stop.

I sneeze. I will sneeze about 3 times in a row. My WHOLE family will say......YOU'RE DONE!

I have to say, I appreciate these physical signals because at times, while eating and talking and feeding the little ones, I think I would over eat much more often without realizing it.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I am a "wall hitter" I just get to a point where I can't take 1 more bite. It happens very suddenly. Being 3 1/2 years out I pretty much know how much food to put on my plate (usually) but like last night it just snuck up on me.

Liz, it's good to know I'm not the only one who hits that wall. Actually, it happened last week once as well - we were at Red Lobster and I was having my usual tilapia...and then...WHAM.

I guess the hiccup was a more graceful signal.

I burp - a lot! And then I know I'm done - and feel like you - I have to get the plate away from me and into the garbage disposal because then it starts to turn my stomach. Not a bad thing, really...

Lynn LOL - I have a small burp and then about three hiccups.  My African Grey, Obi, now does it too!  DH says "well, I guess you're full."  It's too funny!

I have had a time or two since surgery where I'll be chewing the food very slowly and suddenly realize I can't swallow another bite.  It's only happened about two times, though.

I either get a sick feeling or just stop eating and can't look at another bite.  Either is a great stop-gap for me.

It's that "sick feeling" that I don't like.

I don't love it, either.  I chew a piece of sugarfree mint gum for a little while.  That seems to help ease the sick feeling.  It really puts an abrupt end to my eating and, for that reason, I'm glad it's there.  I'm trying to look at the glass half full rather than half empty.  Feeling sick is a stop-gap that I didn't have before the surgery and, as a result, kept eating and eating with no shut-off valve.  Am I making sense?
