Mental Break through today
I have been struggling with Couch to 5K. I have had trouble getting past the 5 minute but couldn't understand why, unless it was a mental block. So, I last ran Friday, cross trained with arc trainer and elliptical since then and tried a different tactic today. I decided not to do the C25K but to try the same basic method but with different timing- jogging as long as I could, then walking briefly, then running, etc. And-- I DID IT!!!!!!!!!! I ran for 10 minutes, walked 3, ran 5 walked 3 ran 5. I feel great! I got the biggest smile on my face too.
I have never jogged for that long, even as a kid. My plan is to increase incrementally from here and keep working towards the goal of running my first 5k this summer. My first goal is to jog a full mile non-stop-- the 10 minutes was just shy of 1 mile so I hope to have this one met by next week!
I can't say I like running-- it may grow on me and it may not-- but I LOVE the sense of accomplishment I feel today.
