“Consignment" means the store buys directly from consumers and designers; the staff only accepts high-quality new and gently used items. Chic dresses, jackets, tops, and accessories often come with tags attached from designers including Prada, Versace, Gucci, Cole Haan, and Coach. Some recent bargains include a brand-new beaded cashmere sweater from Saks Fifth Avenue for $32 and an Ann Taylor jacket for $24. Formerly $400 prom gowns may go for $32–$42, while mint-condition Coach and Prada handbags can sell for $60–$75.

SLC Boutique is the pet project of a retired nurse eager to give Philadelphia-area women a hot apparel infusion at a fraction of the cost. Doors opened in October of 2009, in the midst of the economic downturn, but the boutique’s classy looks and constant influx of merchandise have made it thrive. The flip side of the boutique's gleaming doubloon is that items can also be bought on consignment. Buy a classy gown from SLCB for a job interview, wedding, or diamond heist, then return it there for the majority of its cost. The shop has $2,000 wedding gowns on sale for around $200, perfect for the non-sentimental bride who wants to look great on her big day, but doesn't mind not having the dress forever in a storage trunk. Whatever the motivation, SLCB provides the means to obtain sophisticated clothes and rare apparel items once thought to only exist on the pages of obscure wildlife magazines.

Thanks Karen - I'll go sign up on Groupon.com for the offer - I'd love to get there before my cruise but not sure I'll squeeze it in - it's not too far from my house - I mapped it - should be fairly easy to find. 2 turns off Route 1. I love that they carry designer handbags - some girls are into shoes - I am a handbag junkie!! I wasn't going to invest a lot of money into a dressy outfit for the cruise since we're only on the ship 5 days, but if I can find something reasonable that I could use at work as well I might go for it. I'll let you know if I get there and find anything.

I enjoy consignment shops so much now that I can usually find things that fit.  And a consignment shop that specializes and it sounds like is well put-together can be wonderful.  I hope you find something!
