thoughts and prayers for my friends
I received devastating news yesterday that a friend of mine's "husband" and father of her 2 children, Mario, was killed in a terrible accident on route 78 in New Jersey. abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story
The news still has him listed as an unidentified 37 year old man from Bethlehem. Well, it was definitely him. I have known them both for at least 16 years.
Apparently he was on his way to work in NJ and was falling asleep at the wheel. He pulled over to rest and when he was ready to pull back into traffic, he wa**** by an SUV and spun around to the other side. Then, he wa**** by a tour bus carrying between 40 and 50 people.
What a terrible terrible evening. I spent time with her last night and watched as she went from numb to a complete breakdown in the matter of a few hours. When I got home, I called his best friend to see how he was holding up. They have been friends since they were 6 years old and I have known him for at least 20 years. He was a mess.. he just kept saying how he lost "his Mario". I think that was even more devastating then watching Carly. While I was talking to him, he told me he was sitting outside with his 9 year old son and it was raining. His son said to him, dad.. the rain is Mario crying.
Carly and Mario have 2 children, Mariah who is 15 and Donovan who is 8 or 9. Donovan was at the house last night and he was out playing with the neighbors, but would periodically ask his mom some questions. Mariah was with her friends, probably just trying to comprehend everything surrounded by the love of her friends.
Please keep both of these families in your thoughts and prayers. This is one of the unexplainable deaths and it is so much worse because of the kids involved.

Oh Lisa..that is horrid news. My thoughts will be with that family and with you. I'm so glad she has you as a long time friend. It's just so sad.
