I'm home
I got home from the hospital today around 11 AM. Walked some and then took a good nap in my own bed...awhhhhh how I missed my bed. My WLS experience was smooth sailing. I really didn't have pain... after I was off the morphine pump - I didn't have any pain meds at all. I got the RX filled just incase I do. The walking is going great. Crystal Light & Sugar Free Popsicles are going down good... plain water is a bit hard.
I had some of the Unjury Chicken soup for supper... it was bearable but not really that great.
So give me some advise how to get my protein in the next two weeks on liquids. The mint calcium tabs I have to choke down... yuck... someone told me about the Calcium Crystals you mix with whatever you're drinking... I think I'll have to order them tomorrow.

My best recommendation would be to find a protein drink/shake that you like for now......just to get through the first two weeks. They were my saving grace. Did you try any of the sample protein drinks from support group at the beginning of the month? If so, I have a copy of the recipes if you didn't pick it up. I added protein powder to my yogurt and SF pudding (only a few tablespoons) and I tried different cream soups. For me, it was all about survival.....it might not have tasted the best, but I made it work. At the time I was using the protein bullets and adding them to my drinks, but I later found out they weren't the best source of protein so I would steer away from them. It's going to take some time before you reach your protein goals consistently. For now, focus on getting at least 64oz of liquids in (don't forget to include everything you consume the first 2 weeks because they are all liquids) and then the protein will come eventually.

Congratulations and happy "rebirthday"! So glad to hear things went smoothly for you.
At this point, your tastes are being affected by several things: aftermath of the anesthesia, the surgery itself, and your body going into ketosis (where it's burning off the fat). So what tastes "bad" or "not good" today may be really different next week or next month. So keep trying things, and if they don't taste good, put them aside for a bit then try them again.
So on full liquids, you can get protein supplements to add to the water or broth, you can mix greek yogurt into chicken broth with some spices to make a really nice "cream of chicken" soup. You can use a variety of protein powders to make some yummy smoothies (some really good recipes for smoothies and protein shakes at www.bariatriceating.com and www.barixclinicsstore.com/recipe_main.html ). Feel free to get inventive!
As to the calciums - I really like the Bariatric Advantage brand chewables, particularly in the cinnamon. They're like a cinnamon altoid, kinda. Took me a while to find a brand that I liked, and that's it. They also have chocolate and cherry/berry, neither of which are bad. You can get them online at bariatricchoice.com. I buy mine at Barix - not sure if there are any other physical stores that have them. As to the calcium crystals - just make sure they're the right "type" of calcium (NOT carbonate).
Anyway - good luck to you - keep on sipping and walk a little farther and a little faster every day as you discover the new you!
