Honey, sometimes you just have to tell "Nana" and anyone else that gets on your case just where to get off.  In the nicest possible way, of course.  There's nothing that says you have to let them get you down.

Here's hoping your knee problem gets resolved quickly;  until then, maybe aquatic exercising??

Hang in there, Kid.

OK Nicki,  a little gentle "tough love" to help you coming up...

First off - get your head back into the game.  YOU are in control of yourself.  You control what you put into your mouth (or don't), how you react to what you hear (or don't), and what attitude you carry with you through life.  Other people cannot depress you unless you allow them to do so - do you agree with them?  If not, then let yourself get angry and push away their comments, their behavior, their negativity and, if they can't respect you, then stay away from them.    Realize that it's possible that their behaviors, attitudes, and comments likely shaped the mindset you grew up with that caused your weight problem in the first place.  Reject it.  Period.

You're doing great by getting a plan together.  South Beach is very close to what most of us eat.  It's very WLS friendly so is a good plan BUT... don't think of any of this as a diet (which implies something temporary, with a beginning and an end).  Your surgery was a decision to change your life and your relationship with food.  You've had a little blip on the journey, but that doesn't change the journey itself.  Simply refocus yourself on your nutritional needs and the appropriate food-related behaviors, a day at a time, a meal at a time, an hour at a time if needed.    You know the rules, you know what to do and not do.

As to exercise, your doc told you not to exercise your knee.  That's less than 1/4 of your body and isn't the only thing that moves.  So move everything else.  Don't take that as an excuse that gets you out of gym class - our lives now require us to move and exercise.  You can do it in the water (no stress on the joints) or with your upper body and arms (arm bike, dumbell*****hes, crunches, etc) or even hopping on one leg (the good one, preferably).  The key is to keep yourself moving as much as you can.  That will help ward off the depression and also will keep you burning calories.

Finally - DON'T hide from your support network.  It's good that you're blogging, but reach out to your support network to help you keep your head in the right place.  We can help you push back the negative messages and people, and to focus on real concrete ideas on a day to day basis to get things moving the way you want them to.

As your signature says... you CAN DO IT.

Hugs and good wishes to you!  You have the strength - tap into it and use it to get yourself through this rough patch.

So sorry to hear you are suffering with depression right now. Just try to focus on the fact that all the bad things you are thinking and feeling right now aren't actually real. They are caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain. Once the imbalance is righted things will be better. Focus on all the good. Remind yourself constantly of the good in your life and the progress you have made. Soon the positive will become your reality. Hang in there. And check in with your support group often. Blogging is good but you need feedback too. We are here for you.
