My hips are killing me! Any tips?
Good morning everyone!
I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen as they lose.
I'm waking up constantly during the night because my hips/pelvic bone are throbbing in pain. I'm a side and stomach sleeper and now that I'm losing and those bones aren't as protected - it's downright painful!
Any tips if you too have experienced this? I know that this will pass and I'll eventually get used to these new found bones, but for the time being - I'm missing my sleep!
Thanks!
Melissa

Hi Melissa,
I had that happen primarily with my tailbone, but to some extent with my hips, too. It's the tendons "resetting" themselves after having been stretched out for so long. Yes, it will get better with time and with exercise. Here's what helped me:
1. Sleep with a thin pillow between your legs (or with your upper knee resting on it).
2. Before bed, do a series of deep stretches for your hips, legs, and lower back, so the muscles are relaxed and warm (not in spasm).
3. When working out, incorporate stretching and weights to target and strengthen those areas. THe more you work on the muscles supporting the area, the tighter it will be and the less pain you'll have.
Good luck! And congratulations - you're making GREAT progress!

I have heard LOTS of people using chiropractic care to help with this along with low back or other problems. As you lose weight....you are carrying the weight differently...skin might be starting to knock your "natural" balance out and therefore adding stress where it wasn't before.
If it is more like a feeling like your bones are touching each other on the "outside" (as opposed to internal pain like stress, muscle tightening, etc) then the pillows are an excellent idea as a barrier.
Fantastic job - sorry about the pain though!
