Thrilling Thursday Roll Call
Good Morning PA,.
It is a thrilling day today for a lot of reasons. The Phillies are back in action, and they won last night. The weather is thrilling. And, I am up a lot this morning.
Thursday has me hoping to get to my early morning meeting. Then, I must haul hiney to school to give day 2 of the PSSA test. After school, I hope to get to the gym. A swim sounds really good today. Then, tonight, my Sissy is coming over to help pick out pictures for a Special Olympics project we are working on.
Basically, it will be a full day. Hope everyone has a good day.
Hugs,
Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

Good morning Trish, Nicole and the rest of PA.
I too am off to school to start the PSSA testing. I hate it!!!!! One, I think it is FAR too much pressure on our kids, and that is from the standpoint of the teacher AND the mom, And I am going to be totally BORED. Don't be surprised if I post on here ALL DAY! I might even post an I'm bored post to get you people to chat with me! If I don't do that I might find myself munching throughout the day! OY!
After school today I am heading for my first Physical Therapy appointment for my back - not sure what the doctor saw when they took the x-ray - but it should only help my case to get plastics on my breasts. Then tonight I have another Israel meeting. This should be coming to an end soon.
I hope you all have a great day! :)

Steffi, my boys are amist the PSSA and I think it bites! I can't tell you how many days they spend taking practice tests just to get through this. Then I find out if my boys don't get the level higher than proficient, they will send them to special reading classes next school year! WTF!
My oldest will do fine but Sawyer just freaks out with these tests and never does as well as he does in regular school assignments. He is so stressed to do well I think he will freak out during testing.
I despise the amout of school time taken from them to "practice" so the school districts can complete with numbers.
One local school is getting funding taken AWAY because the didn't have enough proficient scores. Really? the students aren't doing as well as they should so give them LESS money? That makes sense!
Ugh, I could go on and on.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
You are preaching to the chior here - as a parent AND an educator I think the entire system stinks! I have some REALLY talented students - they are feeling the pressure and know that this is the only score that counts. But - to be truly honest - I don't know what it counts for for the individual student. I know what it counts for for the teacher, the school and the district, and that means money - but for the individual student I don't really have a clear understanding.
As an educator forced to administer this test I of course, want my students to do well, just like I do for ALL assessments, which by the way are NOT all tests. I want them to understand what they are learning and even more importantly, WHY they are learning the material. I want them to enjoy their education and their time in my classroom. I remember as a student the classes in which I learned the most were the ones in which the students were able to speak their mind about the subject without feeling ridiculed or stupid - and THAT is how I hope I treat my students.
I have had success with these tests in the past - however, I don't think it is becuase of the "prep work" we do for the weeks leading up to the test, I truly believe it is because of the way we talk with our students throughout the year and how we make them feel about this particular assessment.
I do feel, and I may be alone on this one, that there is a place for standardized tests in this country, however, to have it be the end-all, be-all of assessing a student is disgusting! We are taught to teach to EACH individual child as they need to learn, because each student has their own particular learning style, but then we test them the same way. And, although there are accomodations for certain students, realistically, it is the same test.
Bottom line, I wholeheartedly agree with you and my comments have been made to people that matter - but until this country realizes what the teachers already know, our children, nothing will be done to fix the broken system in this country.
Sorry - you just got me started.......I have thought about this for years and don't know how else to combat the stupidity of our education department in this country, so for now, I will continue to work with my students the best way that I can and work with my colleagues to make sure we are producing good citizens!

Morning everyone.. Trish, glad to see you in a good mood!
I am dragging this morning. I woke up around 3am to go to the bathroom and found myself awake for another hour.... sigh..
working 6:15-3:30
depending on how I feel after work, I may try to get to the gym.. or I may curl up in a ball on my bed and take a nap.
Siehara has dance, so I will go pick up the girls at 5:45.
I need to decide during the course of the day if I will go to bingo tonight. I'm thinking probably not since I am sleep deprived and never get home early from bingo.
That's about it for me. I'm going to try to get outside today and take a walk --- ON THE STREET--

Good Morning Trish and PA friends -
Had a good night last night. Went to my local support group meeting at Phoenixville Hosp. I enjoyed seeing everyone.
Today I'm at work til 3:30 and then off to the gym. After the gym, I'll find something for dinner and then relax.
That's it for me. Hope everyone has a super day !

Good Morning all! Sounds like most of us need a vacation from the everyday!
I too did not sleep well but that's because I am 34 weeks pregnant and feeling huge! lol I went to bed with swollen ankles, an upset pouch and lots of braxton hicks contractions. I was up 3 times to potty and the alarm at 5:30 is just way too early! Anyway, I digress... I am at wor****il 4 then stopping at the chiropractor and home to make dinner and put my feet up. I need to figure out a birthday present for my Mom (it's sunday) so maybe I'll look online for ideas.
Have a good day all - should be gorgeous weather and not as hot!

Good morning all - it is so beautiful out again today that I hate being stuck in at work - then again it is a job and a good one so I guess I'll suck it up and enjoy the nice weather AFTER work - LOL!
I too had a restless night but it was due to the house being too warm, so at 4:00 AM I got up and turned the A/C on and turned the ceiling fan up a notch - slept much better for the whole hour I got after that. Feeling pretty good tho so I guess I got enough rest.
Have to run over to the mall again today to return some stuff to Penney's - my last catalog order was a huge mess - 2 items they said shipped I never got and now I have other things to return. I should know better but sometimes I just like on-line shopping better. After work its walk the dog, make dinner, then go get my nasty nails done - and hopefully in time to stop into HomeGoods and do a little shopping!
Hope everyone has a great day - and GO PHILS - they are looking fantastic already!

Morning everyone. I had interrupted sleep last night too!
I'm working till 4pm today and then going to Erin's softball game. She is coaching middle school for one of the school districts by us (Whitehall). Hopefully, any rain will hold off because the first two games have been rained out. After that, going home and doing whatever. Making lunch and stuff for the next day likely, since I am going strong with the pouch test. Started Day 3 today and was very happy to chew something. I think I made a bad choice this morning though. I was running late and ate a protein bar. Not sure if it really falls within what is acceptable with the pouch test. I have the rest of the meals for the day kinda planned out, so I am not to concerned about.
