Day 2 of the Pouch Test and a little more

Yesterday I started doing the 5 day pouch test not to jump start any weight loss but to really detox from that ugly Carb Monster. I had really fallen off track in recent times and the carbs became easy to go down.

Much of it was due to emotional eating and not addressing my feelings and well the scale smacked my ass back into reality pretty fast. Then as if the carbs were not bad enough I played with the Carb Monster's best buddy the Sugar Demon. Well he almost what I felt like killed me in the middle of the night last week and taught me a lesson. I can not eat handfuls of jellybeans and not get to dance with Sugar Demon.

I had a ten pound weight gain and well  it scared me so after what I am calling a mini melt down at Barix on Saturday I knew what I needed to do. STOP EATING THE CARBS AND SUGAR!

So when I left Barix on Saturday I made my way to GNC to stock up on Max Protein and plan my week of the pouch test. From reading about it seems some people said day 1 was hard but day 2 was easier.

Day 1 was not hard at all for me maybe it is just my mindset of being scared that got me through with no problems. I had a fluids, protien shakes and a yogurt for dinner then when I thought I really wanted to just munch on something it was just past 9pm so I went to bed and all was ok. Dennis was eating his dinner it smelled so good he even asked if I was ok with it I was fine but it really smelled like heaven.

Day 2 is off and running I am in work drinking my protein shake I have one packed for lunch and I have powerade with plus a yogurt. Dinner will be some soup and more fluids. Then I am hoping to take a nice walk tonight.

What I learned in the last few days is that I have it in me to see what I am doing wrong and to reckonize that I was emotional eating. I also learned that I can open up to my support system and not be judged. While I knew this in my heart I learned just how much support I really do have
around me.

Beth,

I truly admire your strength and courage.  You are an insightful and beautiful woman with amazing inner reserves, as well as a great support network.  You are doing just the right thing to get yourself back on track and in a good head space.

Wish I had been there on Saturday to give you a big ole hug!  A virtual one will have to do for now - HUG!!!

YAY, Beth!  Sounds like you're off to a fantastic start.  No doubt with your positive attitude and determination, you'll do just fine with the 5 day pouch test.

I love Max Protein and drink it every day.  I use the chocolate and have a variety of Da Vinci syrups I mix with it.  I have a favorite which is White Chocolate, Chocolate, and English Toffee, skim mil**** and chocolate Max Protein.  Put it in the Magic Bullet and it's heavenly.

Good luck and thanks for posting to let us know how you're doing.  I've been thinking about you.  You are a beautiful person with lots of insight, and a true inspiration!  GO BETH!   WOO HOO!

Debbie

Good Job Beth. I usually find the puch test to be easy because I dont have to think about food, it is very freeing. I am proud of you. Remember this is a journey, those 10 lbs have value they taught you something.

The carb monster and sugar demon are definatley something I struggle with on and off.

You continue to be an inspiration to so many - including by facing and SHARING your struggles and the path you are taking to correct them.

Congatulations Beth!  Enjoy your walk tonight!

Thank you sooo much for posting about this.  For me anyway - I appreciate when those "older" than us share their struggles so that we know that this is truly a journey!  I hope you know how much I adore you and appreciate what you have done for me along this trip.  You were my first support group "leader" after my surgery and I will always remember how you have led the way.  I am so glad that you are finding this not that difficult.  Enjoy the evening - shoule be a pretty one - Even in NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA! :)

I have been contemplating the 5DPT myself - mindless eating is coming back into my life and that is not a good thing - and bringing along its carb-loaded friends. I am over 2 years out now and yes, food does go down easier and that's what I really have to watch. With all of the emotional junk I was dealing with over the past few months I didn't realize how far off track I had gotten - with eating and exercise.

I need some supplies for the 5DPT so I will go out this weekend and load up - one question on the protein shakes. If you mix them at home in the morning and take them to work do they separate too much to shake back together? That's my only real concern since I don't mind the protein shakes at all.

Wishing you all the best with this, Beth - and for always being an inspiration to me and everyone else out here.
