Thrift Shoppers

Hi folks -

I think I have finally figured out the system for the thrift stores in my area.  I had been striking out the last few times coming out with nothing and getting quite discouraged at the thought of paying full price for clothing since I am still in the losing phase.

Friday night I stopped again just to check and made out great.  I found 5 really nice work-appropriate tops plus three paperback books and got everything for $29.00.  The shirts were all $3.50-$4.50-ish.  Nice stuff too.  The top that I'm wearing today is from dress barn and I'm certain it would have been around $30.00 new.  I got it for $3.50

My thoughts are this.....that the thrift shops don't have enough room for multiple seasons, so they were hiding the spring clothes and have now moved out the winter stuff and moved in the spring stuff.

So, if you are into thrift shopping, now seems to be the time to go.

You're right about them being seasonal - if you take clothes to consignment or thrift shops to be sold they have to be in-season - you can usually only take a certain amount at one time, etc. If you want to sell clothes the best thing is to check with them first to see what their rules are. But yes, they are definitely seasonal - I guess they have to be since most of them are limited with room and storage.

Congrats on your great buys - that's wonderful!!

I find great deals at Target on the clearance rack. Marshalls/Ross/TJ Maxx are also great. I refuse to spend too much money on clothes, or at least did until I was at a stable weight, then I got pregnant lol I am a bargain hunter. Suprisingly WalMart has some nice stuff these days too. it isn't great long term stuff but perfect for the rapidly loosing phase.

Liz - I've done ok at Ross a time or two and occasionally the Target clearance racks.  My problem sometimes is a lack of patience when it comes to combing thru racks and racks of stuff.  My thrift store does sort by size, which is really helpful.  I've stayed out of Goodwill because they sort by color rather than size.  It's not very often that I have the time to go thru entire racks looking for my size.

Hey Lisa-

Most Salvation Armys have Family day Wednesdays when everything that is not a specific color tag is 50% off. Just a thought.

Hi, everyone. I usually post on the lap band /realize forums but, I lerk in PA all the time.
I am a bargain shopper and have learned the schedules of most of my local thrift stores. It helps to make freinds with some of the staff and ask questions. A lot of them have sale days and certain days when they stock more then others. There is a new goodwill in Ephrata I went to last week and it had just put out the spring/summer stuff and it had great stuff. The key is go often because you never know when someone will make a donation of your size and stuff goes quickly.
