Did I make you sick?

Ok....Brian asked me to bring this up...and I thought he *may* have a valid point....so I'm checking.  If it IS what happened - PLEASE let me know.

As a few of you know towards the end of Liz's shower I felt "gassy"  I chalked it up to drinking two cans of soda throughout the day which I normally never even finish one, and the malitol over the past few days (I had the sf cookies while I was baking them, and then I had a very small piece of the malitol cake at the shower)

It had been a good 30 mins from the time I had anything to eat or drink when I felt VERY uncomfortable so I decided to go out into my back yard and walk around a little bit.  And then proceeded to vomit for about ten mins.  Now, this is a HUGE deal for me....because I have never once been able to throw up since surgery.  I brought up a TON of liquid - no solids.

I hadn't thought much about anything of it....malitol, lack of sleep over the past few days, hectic work schedule, not eating right as it was......all can make anyone feel like crap.  Sipped water after it happened, had no problems, even had a snack after everyone left, no problems...and had absolutely NO problems the rest of the night, all day Sunday, and even now as I type this.

Apparantly, though, Brian had some of the regular cake during the party and then towards the end.  After I had gone to bed he apparantly had a "small" piece (I have no idea what "small means to  him) of the sf cake.  This was about 1 or 1 1/2 hours after he had eaten anything else.  He said within 20-30 mins he had the runs, abdominal pain, etc.

I'm chalking HIS up to him not eating malitol almost ever, being sensitive to it, etc.  But when he told me about it he was concerned - I got sick about 1/2 hour after eating it, so did he.

So my question....did anyone else get sick after eating the cake?   I sincerely sincerely hope nothing was wrong with it and that I didn't "poison" anyone....but if I did...I definately want to know.  Imput please!

Pam. I was a bit bloated LOL but that was from eating too much and from the malitol which always gets me that way. I felt fine though, I did not get sick or anything and neither did Jason.

Sounds like the bug my son and dil had a week ago. Didn`t last but total of about 6 to 8 hours then both were ok.

Not me! I felt OK saturday night - last night and this morning though - UGH! I was blaming it on baby and prissy pouch. Everything I Put in my mouth my tummy is upset.

I think you are off the hook on this one though hun!

AND the cake was delicious :) I would have taken my chances anyway!

I was a little bloated right after I ate dessert, but I think it was the milk in the trifle not the cake.  I was in the den with Brian when I felt it.   He commented on the prissy pouch when I said it.   When I came out and said that I thought I overdid it, Liz mentioned that she wouldn't touch the trifle because of the milk.  I would have to assume that this was my problem, too.  I always use either soy or Lactaid.

I think you're fine and I would have had it again, as well. LOL!

It was probably "maltitol overload"---it was in your cake, the cookies I made, and I'm assuming in Liz's meringue bark.  I was gassy, but I always get that way from sugar alcohols.  My doc told me this week there is a stomach virus running around right now.  I had it last week.  Had some diarrhea from it but mostly just had stomach pain.  (Pain had me in tears after eating dinner one night.  Doc said the food caused spasms.)  Maybe you and Brian had a bug?  Sounds like Brian was reacting to the sugar free stuff though.  I know it doesn't agree with Paul either.

Ok, now here's my short answer to your question:  No, you didn't make us sick.

Nope,  no problems at all here.  Not even my "usual" maltitol gas attack, despite having a second piece of the cake.

Glad you're both OK, though!
