ok made my kids spaghetti tonight so I decided I would just eat the sauce with the meat so I measured it out in 1/4cup then put a lil parmasaen cheese on it..

well  ate that and decided I would measure some out for tomorrow so did the 1/4cup . well my kids loves to use the scale so I late him set the cup on there and it said 5.2 oz .. what the heck did I totallly screw up I am so confused when we have chili and all that we measure it out to 1/4 cup which this would be like the same thing.. I am freakin out, cause I have been trying to follow the rules and listen to all of you that I could let myself have excuses to eat something bad.. but this truly was a mistake .. am I ok.. or am I suppose to measure chili and all that on the scale and not in a cup.. I cant imagine we would end up with much..

I am feeling ok , now that it has settled a lil more full then normal..

I have no clue if I am making sense.. *L

Volume 1/4 cup is different then weight 1/4 cup.  Volume is what I watch with the pouch. A gallon of sulfuric acid could weigh 15.4 pounds yet a gallon of water is 8 pounds yet a gallon volume wise is 128 fluid ounces.

Jenn,

Don't confuse weight with volume measurements.  For something like chili or spaghetti sauce or soup, you measure by volume to get the 1/2 cup measure.  For "solid" things like meats and cheeses, you measure by weight on the scale to get the proper serving.

Just as a hint, try mixing the spaghetti sauce with some part-skim ricotta and top with the parmesan for a really tasty higher-protein snack or meal.

You measured it correctly. Things like that go in a measuring cup while dense non liquids go on the scale. You're ok

and I love Karens idea of adding some ricotta for protein and texture

Also, did you subtract the weight of the measuring cup? My scale has a "tare" button, so you can put the empty cup on the scale, push tare, and then put it back with the food in it, and it will just weigh the food.
