Heartburn

Don't know why I am getting it more recently.  I did have an ulcer back when I was 7 weeks out, but he told me to stop the pills as it should be cleared up.  I guess they can come back, especially with stress that I have been under since November.  I also have had a LOT of gas- a lot of bad bad gas pains.  I am 9 months out of surgery so I don't have the right after surgery problems.  And I don't know if I should call the surgeon...I mean of course I still see him, but would it be just as well to go to my PCP for something?  My diet has not really changed - except for becoming lactose intolerant.

Sorry that you are going through all this again! I would definately call the surgeon. He handled my ulcers at a year out without flinching. I wouldn't leave this to the PCP - most of them don't know pouches well enough.

As for the gas, well unfortunately it is an issue many of us post ops face. You can try gas-x or beano to make it better. THere is also a product I think called "Devrom" that while it doesn't get rid of the gas it kills the odor (which post op could be more offensive then a herd of cows! lol)

Good luck and feel better!

Oh Liz...that is funny!!  Once we had my God-daughter in the car (she was about 3 months old) and I was in the back with her.  My husband said "Smells like she needs a diaper change"  She didn't LOL!

I will call tomorrow since he is in surgery on Mondays- or I will call the service after 5:00 so I can talk to him and not the office staff.  The pain in my left side with the gas and the heartburn coincided so I am thinking one has something to do with the other.  I do take Gas-x but I think they need a triple strength!  I think I will try the health food store.  I want some high potency D and someone told me to try (I can't spell it)  you take it for digestion and it starts with an A !

You might want to check that you aren't getting too much sugar alcohols in your diet;  anything that ends with "ol" such as malitol, sorbitol, etc.  These can wreck havoc with our innards.

Try Devrom (available online) for the smell.  It really works.

Good luck!

I have been on Prilosec for years for GERD. After my RNY I delveloped an ulcer too. With the Carafate that healed up by about three months. I took the Prilosec for another three months and my surgeon suggested I stop that he said "most" people can get off that type of med after Bypass. Well I am not most people. I have tried on three different occasions to stop taking it and everytime I start to get the familiar burn and pain right back again after about three days. Some of us just need to stay on a med cause even our little tummies continue to make too much acid. Maybe something you should talk to your surgeon about. Hope you feel better soon.

No, I don't post what I eat on these (or any) forums.  I am not up for being critiqued on what I am eating, what somoene else never would eat, I am not eating enough blah blah.  I know what a gassy food is and I know I am eating right for me.  I am going to get some of those Pearls to start on...should help.  If not I will take something for the heart burn but it's not often enough yet to worry about.
