I have a few questions for those of you that attend meetings at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

What is a break out session? According to my schedule there is one on the 24th of March.  I want to attend and just wondered what it is? What is done there? Do you need to pre-register for that? If you do, with whom do you register?

Thank You
Sue

If I remember correctly they are just group meetings, usually have a post op speaker. There is one March 24th 6-7:30. You are supposed to pre reg @ 610-402-care or 888-LVH-care. I just may attend, Wed's are hard for me it's my late night.
I am sure when you call to register they would tell you exactly what break out sessions are. I have a flyer here I took from The New You center if you need any more dates.

Thank You. I have the list as well.
When I went to the meeting last week they mentioned the break out session but no other info about it. It was a meeting about exercise and fitness not necessarily a group meeting.  So I did not ask.  I know they said it was in the Pavilion instead of the auditorium.
This break out session was not a required meeting so I was not sure about the registration.  Anyone else think pre-registration is kind of a turn off? I mean what if it a last minute decission or you suddently become available? Do they turn you away at the door?

I was required by the New You program to attend 2 free group meetings b4 surgery. I was lucky one ended up being a cooking demo, that was really good. I still use the recipes from it.
I don't know about pre reg, they said it was to allow them to know how many groups they would split into, or if the room would hold everyone. It took 3 minutes I am sure you could do last minute if necessary
.
Last time I was at weight management I asked again about post op meetings, she said they are working on them.
It was a little annoying going to a pre surg meeting and all the post ops asking stuff we didnt even know about yet. I don't want to be that person at a meeting lol
Wish they had better post op options through the center.

I'm actually looking forward to hearing about any answers you get on this as I had heard it mentioned and wondered what they were.

Considering I'm an LVH employee this may sound ridiculous - but are the meetings held at the cedar crest site or one of the other ones?

They have 2 different ways they do group. The support groups are in an auditorium and all patients go in one room.  They usually have either a speaker come in with a specific topic or have post op patients speak.

Break outs they divide you by your need.  There is Gastric Bypass pre-op room, Bypass post op Room, Lapband Pre-op room and Lapband post op room.  The rooms and groups are smaller.  There is a leader and we can discuss whatever we like.

Hope this helps!

Well everyone summed it up already, but I will chime in anyway, just for the heck of it.  I think break out sessions are nice, because it gets people talking about what's going on with them and you get input from other people who are like you.

Lynn - Break-outs are great for post-ops because you are with people in the same situation you are.

Erin and I usually go, so I hope to see some of you there...
