Meat and my new stomach hate each other
ok can someone tell me if anyone else had this problem....Why can't I eat any kind of meat? I make sure they are small pieces, I weigh my portions, I eat and chew sloooowwwww and everytime I can feel it getting stuck and then I vomit for the next several hours...I had one stricture procedure done already I'm thinking I'll be back in for another one. It doesnt matter if it's chicken, beef, tuna fish, reg fish, any kind of meat does not like my stomach at all....I am about to become a vegetarian so I won't have to deal with all the vomitted...it actually wears me out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!
I have the same problem. Had an upper endoscope and everything is fine, no strictures. I'm eating a lot of tofu, but as starting to get tired of it. My gastro doc suggested that I use only ground meat and introduce it slowly, made in chili like dishes and cooked in the crok pot. So that is what I've been doing. I was able to eat and not throw up black bean stew, it's made with blackbeans and hamburger, I was able to eat 2-21/2 oz and keep it down. I also for the first time made Chili over the weekend with ground turkey and I am able to eat about 2- 21/2 oz and keep that down.
When I eat meats and fish I can tell after a couple bits if it is not going to agree and I just stop eating. I've found that helps cut down on the throwing up.
I know when I get sick from meats, I have a horrible time. I can't drink anything till the next day. And then I can't eat anything solid for a couple days.
I am hoping with the chili and black bean stew being positive experiences that maybe this is starting to straighten itself out. Baby steps is how I'm approaching this.

SOunds to me like it is too dry. Try eating them with broth, gravy or another sauce to really make them moist - think dripping. The pouch is very sensitive early out and meat can feel like a brillo pad. I ate a lot of ground meats early out with lots of broth to keep them moist. Still at 3 years out I have problems with chicken and most things that are re-heated because they dry out.
IF this does persist please do contact your surgeon

All the responses thus far are accurate....
Cook things in the crockpot or stew like (braising) in liquids and keep it very moist. Ground meats help, too.
And if it's something like burgers or whatever, add some gravy to it or at least some low carb ketchup.
For most it gets better with time.
Are you keeping liquids and other things (pudding, yogurts, veggies, fruits) down without any issues? If so...the stricture thing may not be a recurrent problem AT THIS TIME (I'm not saying it can't happen again or isn't in the process of happening)
But absolutely positively if this keeps up, gets worse, or anything else call your doc ASAP. I would also call them just to let them know this issue is still persisting.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

I am going to sound like a snot here but I swear by this...rib eye steak, prime rib, filet mignon, meat loaf mix (pork, veal, beef grounded) the tender cuts seriously I tried london broil and OMG did I pay the piper the meat has to be tender. As for chicken well I waved bye, bye after trying it two times and it got stuck where I wanted to crawl up into a ball and die! It could be you are only a couple of months out also and it gets better its all trial and error. Crock pot like Pam said is a good idea also. Feel better soon.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and advice. I always do my meats in the crock pot and they are always moist. Someone asked about yogurts and drinks if they are going down....they go down except the days that I had some kind of meats then nothing will go down. Thinking about just doing my normal protein intake, soft foods and leave meats out for now until further down the road. I know what I went through with my last stricture and I definately dont ever want to feel like that again. Thanks again everyone.....MORE snow YUCK!!!
At 5 and a half years out, there are STILL times meat will make me barf.
If I sit and think about it, it's usually a little dry, I don't chew long enough, etc.
When all 6 of us are at the table talking about our day, I often forget my "rules" and end up sick. So make sure you are always remembering to eat lean, tender meat, cut in tiny potions, and CHEW!
PS, after all these years of trying to make pork work, I am done with it. Unless it's spare ribs, I just cannot eat it. It's a meat that HAS to be cooked thouroughly for safety reasons but gets dry so quickly......I have given up. LOL
