Pouch Rules for Dummies
After reading Lisa's post and its responses I wanted to put this out there for anyone that may not be aware of it ....The Rules for how to eat for folks a year out are different than newbies (and of course, subject to your doctor's opinion) Personally, no one where I had surgery ever mentioned this particular change in info to me on my 1yr visit; I found it on the OH boards. I asked my new NUT if she knew about it; she had the same list right in her office. Maybe it's news to some of you as well... (whether you agree with it or not, it's good info to know).
For instance, You have to dry up your foods to feel them in your pouch. You shouldn't be eating much cottage cheese, yogurts, soft foods for protein at +12 as they slide through. Even though they are good proteins - also why you shouldn't be relying on shakes by then - you'll get hungrier faster. (Obviously, if you need the protein to make your numbers then do the shake.) You should finish meals in 10-15 mins (unlike in the beginning when you chew slowly and take 20-25 mins) and you need to use water loading (instead of constant sipping) to hold off hunger between meals. Read the "Ideal Meal Process". Print the list off, run it past your doc or NUT. Try it for a week an see if you "feel" your pouch better; maybe you'll eat less if it's dry. The same theory is behind the 5DPT; after you cleanse w/liquids and empty the pouch you progress to dry things so you can feel it again. http://www.amylhwilliams.com/pouchrulesfordummies.html

I'm a huge yogurt etc type of person....and have a 5-7 pound weight gain to prove it...because I don't stay full long enough...and then eat crap I shouldn't.
Once home I will read the full article and print it out, thank you!
