there needs to be another snack in there between lunch and dinner and something after dinner. Are you getting in all your protein? All your fluids?

I drink a lot of decaf, unsweetened tea. Peach, mint and plain are my favorites. You can do highly diluted juice - I do 1oz juice to 4oz water - but limit juice to 4oz a day. Put lemon, lime orange or grapefruit slices in your water to jazz it up. Have you tried the different brands of drink mixes? Like the crystal light alternatives? I drink mine 1/2 diluted - it's just way too sweet otherwise.

Feel better hun!

I will be having another snack tonight I forgot to mention that.. so I am still needing to get another one in.. I am jsut going by reading the pamphlet they gave me and maybe I misread it ..

that makes since and I hope it helps me.. its hard when you dont see the NUT until April I think I should have requested to see them in between cause without this site I would figure nothing out .

other than that does it look ok what I am doing I know I am not getting enough protein in sometimes cause today I didnt do the protein shakes I did string cheese. tonight I will have protein pudding so hope that helps to feel better too..

I tried diluting the crystal light and didnt like it .. I dont like diluted juice anymore.. with my kidney stones I am not suppose to drink tea, I am hoping once I really start taking weight off I will drink it cause then they can do lipitrispy ( cant spell) and the surgeries for removal wont be soo bad..

can we have sugar free Koolaid I thought I would try that.. I am also trying to think of something to use to make a slushie or icee cause those are my favs..

Yes, you can have SF koolaid.  I second the recommendation of Powerade Zero. When I couldn't get anything else down, it worked for me. The grape flavor is especially good, and I diluted it half and half with water.  When I was newly out of surgery I used a slushy maker with SF Torani syrup, and that helped get the fluids in, too.

That's a long time to wait to see the NUT -- can you call them in the meantime?  And I totally, wholeheartedly, 100% agree with the advice to eat every three hours to keep the shaky feeling away.  I know a lot of surgeons say just to eat three meals, but with all due respect to them, surgeons are professional cutters, not nutritionists and not internists.  Yes, I'm just a little opinionated on this matter!  :)

I HAVE to eat every 2-3 hours or I get shakey and sweaty. My sugar gets low. So I must have at least a small snack.

Your body is going through many changes. And remember, your sugar getting low (hypoglycemic) DOES NOT mean eat sugar in the form as we know it. Our body transforms many foods into sugar products so actual sugar is not needed, just fuel for our cells to produce the glycogens we need.

I definately eat about 5-6 times per day. 3 small meals and 2-3 snacks in between.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I also agree that you need to eat every 2-4 hours...so that 1p-6p time frame was way to long.  I would have tried for a snack somewere around the time of 3:30 ish or so.

Yes, both powerade zero and or sf kool aid is allowed.

I know you dont like crystal lite - one of my friends at work (NOT a surgery patient ironically enough) takes a little bit of crystal lite powder and puts it over just plain ice.  She lets the ice melt a little - and then mixes it with a spoon and makes her own slushy type thing with it.  Something like that might work.  And like Liz said you can try different brands of the powdered drink mixes.

What about things like milk?  It would also add to your protein goals throughout the day

The more fluids you get in you may find the shakes and dizziness also improves - it may be sligtly low blood pressure combined with not eating as much....

Check out the bottles of Isopure Zero Carb--comes in several flavors and has a BUNCH of protein in it.

You might also want to try cottage cheese or refried beans.

Good luck!

Jenn, do you like V-8 juice? I drink a little glass of that when I am feeling shaky and it helps. It's not calorie-free like crystal lite, but it has so many vitamins that the 25-or-so calories in a 4-oz glass are worth it to me. Plus it's so yummy!
