Just an FYI - How I am preparing for my trip food wise

WEll not really a trip but an overnight away and the viewings / funeral family stuff that surrounds it. Just thought that I would put this out there to show you how I am going to plan to be away. Same stuff would work for a business trip, family vacation etc.

I have NO IDEA when, where or how I am going to eat over the next 2 days so I'll be packing a cooler with plenty of water (Freezing several bottle to use as my ice), I've also told the hotel that I am diabetic and am getting a fridge and microwave. I will be packing beef jerkey, cheese sticks, cut up cheddar cheese, yogurt, juice, a few sugar free candies, protein bars and lunch meat roll ups. In my purse I'll keep a bottle of water, and a protein bar out of the wrapper (in a snack size ziplock) cut up into bite size pieces. That way if I feel the need to eat at a time when it isn't appropriate (like at the 1hr + long church mass) I can pop a bite here or there without being obvious.

Everyone does know about my surgery and knows that I am pregnant, but either of these reasons alone would be enough to make sure that I am well prepared! Heck I would probably do this if I wasn't either - just in case. I am over prepared like that.

Oh and I'll have a stash of snacks in the car too incase I am snowed in or stuck in traffic - 2 of my favorite things - NOT!

I know most of this is the "norm" and "obvious" for those of us further out,  but I thought that it might help someone so what the heck! It's out there now!

Love the protein bar in a baggie idea!

When I was away a couple of weeks ago, I got a hotel with a fidge and bought skim milk so I could mix my own morning shakes. Of course in this weather, who needs a fridge!

lol so true! I don't pack anything like that because well I don't do shakes. I did early out don't get me wrong, but now I hate the stuff!

Liz, thanks for sharing your tips.  I love your idea of cutting up a protein bar in a baggie -- now that's an idea/tip I'm holding onto.  Debbie

I third or fourth loving the idea of the cut up protein bar in a baggie!  Honestly wouldn't have thought of that on my own!

Nice job, Liz

Thanks for the ideas! I am not quite a month out yet so I can't do the bars (awesome idea for later tho)... but I am leaving on a long road trip to Florida on Thursday so every little bit helps right now. I have my 1 month check up the day I am leaving and will be able to start the soft food phase then also so that will help a little.

I have tried a few soft foods this week (tuna, chicken) to prepare myself ahead of time and done well with them so far. I thought it would be a good idea to try a few things so that I am not trying new things on the road and finding I have trouble so far from home.
