OT Need Good Thoughts

One of my BF from HS, who I am still close with has had a terrible tragedy, Her oldest son christian was shot and killed by police yesterday in greensboro nc.  He had bipolar d/o and was in a manic state, was being aggressive with a knife to the family. They locked him out of the home and called 911. When the police came, they saw he had a knife and they shot him dead in the chest. Not sure why they chose to shoot him he was at least a drive ways distance away from them and had no gun. But that is what happened. His mental illnesss killed him in the end while his mom and 3 smaller siblings watched. Please keep her and her family and the police officer in your thoughts. I am not sure what will happen from here, but it is all over the news and the message boards are being pretty hateful about christian so it is more than she can bare.

i talked with her last night she was pretty sedated but it was heart breaking, the worst part is the media coverage and the police chief is spinning things in a way that are making the family look by and almost to excuse the death. It is going to get so much worse

Nicole, thank you for sharing this. My neice is Bi-Polar and I have suffered from anxiety and depression for years. Mental illness is made fun of until something tragic happens. It is taboo to dicuss it, often people are embarrassed to speak about thier own experiences, and it's just to heart breaking to see things like this happen and be twisted.

I truly feel for your friend. I can't imagine the pain and heartbreak this is causing.

she tried so hard to get him services but all that would happen is he would end up in jail. and they would make her take him home because he was not 18 yet. She was in the process of signing him over to CYS just so that they could provide him with an appropriate level of residential care. That had not happened yet. The mental health system in NC is very bad.

So sorry to hear of this. Many prayers for peace, closure and future healing for her friend and her family will be said.
