Another yummy product find!
My mouth is all happy!!! Remember those Gardein "chicken-less nuggets" I told you about earlier this week? Well, tonight I tried their "Beefless Tips" and they're great too!
I used a recipe similar to the one on the package - marinated them for about 10 minutes (still frozen) in the bag with the following mixture:
- 1 tbsp diced garlic
- 1 tsp splenda
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 1/4 tsp salt (i didn't use quite that much)
- 1/2 tsp pepper
Then i put them in my non-stick pan with a spritz of pam and browned them on all sides. While they were browning, I whisked together the following:
1/4 c rice wine vinegar
5 tsp light soy sauce
2 tsp ground ginger (the kind you get in a tube in the produce section)
1 tbsp splenda
1/4 of a large red onion, sliced very thin
When the tips were browned on all sides, I dumped the mixture into the pan and sauteed the whole thing for about 2 - 3 minutes.
I had it with 1/4 cup brown rice topped with japanese "rice topping" (wasabi, sesame seeds, bonito flakes). REALLY good and very beef teriyaki-ish tasting.
The texture (as with most tofus) isn't EXACTLY beef - it's a bit of a softer texture than a good beef tip, but it was very, very tasty.
Here's the nutrition (which doesn't count my sauce or the marinade, but they're pretty negligible except will add some sodium and carbs from the soy sauce):
