Take a dose of fiber stat with 2 peri colace in the am and the pm until the bloatedness subsides and then continue once a day until you need to go am and pm again.  Sometimes you need to switch off to something when you body gets used to it.  My switch off is Miralax.

Barix sells fiber stat

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

I'm thinking a couple things Pam...adhesions and/or partial obstructions  (you are coming up on the time they present themselves) and an overabundance of poop in the line.   Even though we eat less and better we still have less and it works differently.   It flies through the small intestine faster but then smacks into the next section slower so the pipeline can get backed up.   This back up can take a long time to compact to where the flora and fauna, so to speak, get overwhelmed and out of balance and it presents as a problem.   I've asked my PCP and Chiro (who's also does holistic meds) about this too and was told to do a liquid fast and/or liver detox and get my ass back to the gym.  The Chiro recommended 2 products:  LiverEase for the detox and Milk Thistle (1 tab w/breakfast each day) ongoing.   The PCP said I could pick something up at a GNC but didn't recommend anything specific.   However, first, because of your history, I'd call your b-surgeon...but then you know that.   Hope you get things back to normal soon.

Sorry, gotta add a P.S. - I have been back in the gym the last month very faithfully (too embarrassed to join the gym thread in case I fell off my wagon) and can I just tell you the quantity, quality and frequency of my poops is awesome!  The peristalsis is working again!  I'm obviously purging some old stuff as the intake hasn't changed but the output surely has.   I slacked off there for a year or so while going through some personal stuff and when it became apparent that wasn't gonna end and I was being overwhelmed physically and mentally by the stress, I had to start thinking of ME again before I lose this tool I worked so hard on (not to mention my mind).....EXERCISE is a KEY component to LONG TERM SUCCESSING.  We're all told that,....I hate to say it to anyone else, I hate to do it period, I hate to admit it to myself that I need it, but once you've got the good eating habits in place, if you don't get the good exercise habits too you'll lose your tool in 3 or 4 years just because your body adapts to its new plumbing.   Gotta USE it or LOSE it as Geri says.

Yea...the adhesions obstructions was my biggest concern. And mine began presenting at 9 mos out, was hospitalized at Barix in July of '08 for one, so I feel I'm more "at risk" than the average jane if you will.

Ok....I've been soooooo slacking on the exercise it's not even funny.  And if this is what it takes to get my arse back there, then so be it!

Well...talk about sharing everything....I'm now literally pooping just about clear.  Apparantly the 2 days of miralax (takes 1-3 days per the bottle) after the two mornings of suppositories which had gotten most of the stuff out, is working out everything else...which is nothing, LOL

I can't see Dr. Pupkova due to insurance changes.  A consult is only like $45 or something like that - but if anything were wrong and she were to do anything or I needed to be hospitalized, it would be out of pocket which is obviously not an option.  However, LVH has a great bariatric program, so if it were something like that, I'd be ok with one of them getting involved.

I figure it this way.  I KNOW it's no longer a constipation issue.  If it happens again, I'm going to the ER for a scan when it's happening so if it IS something like a twisted bowel, they can see it.  If it doesn't happen again, I'll start with my primary in the next day or so for some xrays and maybe a baseline outpatient ct scan.  We'll see.

Thanks!

So glad that you posted all of this. I have been going through the same thing and trying all kinds of remedies that I have read on here. I am also really bloated, full feeling, pooping a medium amount every three or four days (and that is a change from 1-3 times a day several months ago) So I am taking two colace every night, I eat three or four prunes every night, I have taken up to three dulclox, and I started taking probiotics every night. I also take magnesium twice each day. Nothing seems to be working very well. I don't want to rely on laxatives but I need to do something. I need to increase my fluid intake some, and make my exercise routine more routine. Maybe I will try the miralax too. Thanks for sharing.

Is magnesium citrate a pill or liquid?  And where can I buy it?  I saw liquid form at Happy Harry's tonight, but I'm leery of liquids because of sugar.

It's a liquid.  It's carbonated.  I have never taken it before personally.  It doesn't *appear* that it would have sugars in it...but...then again....I've never looked.

Most grocery stores/walgreens/cvs type places have it.  Look in the colon health section with suppositories, hemmrhoid stuff etc.

And besides...dumping can make you have the runs anyway...so a double whammy?  LOL  Sorry, couldn't resist!

If you're heading through the LVH network, see Dr Boorse with General Surgical Associates.  He is great!!  Best wishes!

I'll DEFINATELY keep that in mind.  Yes, would be going through LVH.  I think I've probably met him in the ER a few times...but I see soooooo many doctors, residents, interns etc I can't keep any of them straight, even a year later!
