Just annoyed

Ok so I'm venting.  I've already texted a few of you while I was at work to vent.....so I appologize you are reading this twice.

Anyway....let's go back about 14 weeks ago when I first saw my PMD and was sent for thyroid labs.  My TSH at that time was almost 30, when normal is about 0.35-3

I was placed on synthroid 75mcg (smallest dose) for 6 weeks and was told to get retested.

At that 6 week mark my TSH was down to 4, still above normal, but obviously GREAT in comparison.  Now, I had also been told that any TSH above 7 is unlikely to conceive...and in all reality...probably isn't safe if it DID happen.

Ok....so at the retest....I was upped to 100mcg and told to get retested in 8 weeks.  That was the labs that I was due for on Monday and had redrawn in the ER.

Got my labs back today....my TSH is freaking 10!!!  It has gotten worse.  And I don't know why.  I' follow the instructions to a T.  Take it on an empty stomach.  No eating for one hour post.  No citrus.  I even started taking my multivit at least 2 hours afterwards because of the vitamin C in it - I didn't want it interfering with it.

There's a few "worst case scenarios" whi*****lude pituitary or thyroid tumor or goiter (goiter not being as bad as tumor)  There's the possibility that my thyroid function is still changing and therefore it was pure "luck" that the 75 got it down as far as it did and it's still faulting.  There's also the possibility that due to the bypass that I'm not absorbing it the way I'm supposed to.  Of course....that doesn't make entirely to much sense because of the 75 working.  I'm going to start crushing them, regardless of the doseage.  I hadn't started crushing when I went from 75 to 100 because I was afraid I would "over absorb" it and send myself into hyperactivity.

I also have the name/number of an endocrinologist.  I think my PMD is AWESOME and he's been doing a great job of everything, but I think at this point a specialist is a good idea for something like this.  G-d forbid it's something else other than just a medication adjustment....I'd want to know someone who ONLY deals with endocrine problems is dealing with it.

I also have to call my PMD as Brian mentioned they had called the house last night.  Hmmmm wonder what they wanted?  To tell me about my labs, LOL  I'm gonna guess they are gonna send me for an ultrasound of my thyroid which is fine with me, and that way I could have more info for the endo (I assume it will take time to get an appointment with an endo)

So...anyway....I'm just annoyed.  Not specifically about the TSH but more so about the ramifications of the su*****luding conceiving and what not.  With it over 7 I doubt anything will happen in the next few months anyway..but we had been looking forward to trying seriously for awhile now...especially since my cycle had regulated (when my TSH was 30 it was anything but regulated).....and I certainly wouldn't want to try if it was risky to myself and/or future baby anyway.

Seriously....I'm frigging annoyed

I would be too! I wonder WTF is going on... I never had my TSH tested before my thyroid was removed (big old honkin cysts that kept refilling after aspirations) so I don't have anything to comapare it to. I'm gonna venture to bet they tell you Hashimoto's Disease (Yep, I've got that to) it's a hardening of the thyroid (I know you know Miss Nursey-poo) and can cause the level to go all whacky!

Tell the Dr LIZ SAID they need to solve this so our babies are close in age

Good luck sweets! Text or call anytime!

And actually....I did NOT know what Hashimoto's disease was, thanks for the education :)

I will!

Can't see the endocrinologist yet.  I need a "release" from my PMD to say that I'm "allowed" to go see the endocrinologist.  So I called my PMD and spoke to a nurse who works there.  She said she would talk to the doc and they would "get back to me"  Freaking wonderful.  I called the endocrinologist on a whim anyway - and that's what they told me "do you have a signed release from your primary doctor to come see us?  We need confirmation of his release prior to even scheduling you"  Frigging politics I tell you!

That's just crazy! I can understand a referral but a release? That's BS! I'd call a different endo! lol

Apparantly, after discussing this with nurses at the hospital, it's not all that uncommon.  If you have been treated for something by a primary, a specialist doesn't want to "rip you out" of their practice blah blah blah....I'm not a hundred percent sure calling another endo would do much better.  I'm gonna give it till Monday (cause I'm not gonna be home/available till Sat night) to hear from my PMD and see what happens from there

sorry you are going through this Pam.  I hope it is just something as simple as adjusting the meds.

Good luck today and you can text or call anytime if you need to.
