You have to be creative
Earlier this week, I said that I needed a slap in the head for not getting it done. I had a nice conversation with my Nutritionist and she told me to eat and drink whether I wanted to or not. She scolded me for not getting all my vitamins in. You folks gave me a lot of encouragement.
One of my biggest problems along this whole process, pre-op and obviously afterward, has been getting what I need when I need it. I came up with a creative way to help me remember what to take and when to take it. I dug out one of my old Blackberry's (I love Blackberry's and am on my 3rd one.) and I used the calender feature to set up a schedule of what I need to do, (eat, vitamins, other meds) and when I need to do it, and then I used the repeat feature on the menu option. So now everyday, at the exact same time as the day before, my Blackberry plays the William Tell Overture and reminds me that I need to do something right then and there.
If you have an old cell phone with a calendar feature on it, you may be able to do the same thing. I don't think you have to have something fancy like a Blackberry to do use this trick. The great thing is that you can stick that extra phone in your pocket or pocket book and carry it with you and you always have the reminder system with you.

If you saw how much already goes on with my current Blackberry, you would understand. Believe it or not, having it set up on a phone with that being its only purpose, makes my life a whole lot easier. Currently, I am at home most of the time anyway, so I just have it sitting on my desk plugged into my computer to keep it charged. My goal is to get used to anticipating when it is going to go off and get in the habit of taking my vitamins, and eating, before it reminds me to do so.
That's an EXCELLENT idea! I know someone who used their calender feature on their computer at work...so every few hours a little pop up would come up that would either say "eat" or "vitamins" or what have you.
Congrats on knowing what you have to do and taking that step to ensure you do it!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Great idea - won't be long before most of it is routine, tho. Although I will admit that at almost 2 years out I still tend to forget my afternoon vitamin unless I'm at work, and I have a reminder on my calender every day at 2:15 to take it. I've recently gotten an iPhone and have the reminder on there now so I'm getting better at that second vitamin on weekends, too.
Glad you're doing so well - that's great to hear!!
