Hard habits to break

I think I'm doing pretty well with all of this....until I get into the car to take a longer trip.

Then my (apparently deeply embedded) habit of munching while I drive wants to kick in. I had NO idea how much I ate in the car until I stopped!

What habits have been the most challenging for you to break/change?

Eating at night...I turn into a food craver after 8pm!  It's really hard to not ruin a great day that way.  I've never had the problem of eating while driving, old habits do die hard!!

Try keeping a drink in teh car instead - that way you aren't tempted and it satisfies that "reaching" reflex.

I have the car problem and the eating at night problem..those are the biggest.  I have learned not to bring anything in the car, except a drink.  Night on the other hand is still an issue.  I can have a healthy snack and then still feel the urge to keep on snacking..

The idea of needing something "sweet" after dinner....I can not tolerate sugar at all and havent even attempted to try ...but it is still there --this nagging little thought of I want something sweet.....I guess I just have to stay focused and stay on the right path...

Boredom eating and snacking at night - actually they're probably one in the same! And I'm struggling to break that nasty habit again. I'm good at meals - not stuffing myself - watching to not drink - etc. But that stinking snacking...its a killer.

Regarding car eating...

I was just mentioning to a friend this week how much cleaner my car is since I stopped eating in the car.  The crumb level is down substantially.  I too didn't realize how much I ate in the car until I stopped.

My challenge is eating at night....I continually fight the urge to munch out of boredom.

Having a snack at night is not necessarily a bad thing.  Keep in mind that we should be eating every 3 hours to keep blood sugar stable, and there are several people who have started developing reactive hypoglycemia (blood sugar bottoms out) in the middle of the night because they're not eating close enough to bed time.  Just make sure that you're eating "to plan" and that what you have before bed is a balanced carb/protein combo...

Habit-wise, I find myself starting to revert to some old bad habits at this point (9 months) - like "sneak eating" (and just WHO do I think hiding it from???) and allowing portion creep to happen (well, there's only a little left in the dish, so i might as well fini****).  I've been definitely working on that - the only fix is to rigorously MEASURE my portions again.  This is a life-long journey and I can't afford to take any of it for granted.

As to eating in the car, yep - that was a big one for me in the past, especially for long car trips.  Last trip, instead of not packing anything (thus tempting me to stop at the nearest wawa and stock up) I packed baggies with pre-measured portions of "safe" things - like carrots, cocopops, celery, etc.  ... and a protein bar so I didn't have to settle for whatever they had at a rest stop for a meal. They gave me the crunchy satisfaction and just knowing that I had them with me took away the excuse to stop and helped manage the habit a bit.

Oh thank goodness I'm not alone here having some of these issues!!!!! I was not huge one for eatting in the car all of the time but sometimes I would now I take no food in the car unless it's food shopping or bringing leftovers home or taking food to work that is it!!!! I'm more of a I want snack when I get home from work at 11pm heck most of the time  I don't get to eat my supper till I get home from work so most of the time I end up snakcking at work, which I'm trying to work on to make it lot of protien if I do get to eat supper at work it's round 930pm. I have cought myslef getting up around 3am or 5am eatting something like bowl of ceral or bannana or kashi bar or chocolate I only know this because I wanted to have drking after this and dropped the glass of tea and it woke me up or snapped me out it or whatever!!!!!! SO this is issue that i'M  working on as well!!!!! I'm sure this is all one in the same but sometimes when I watch tv I want to snack. I as well have to get to measure my portions out again to!

I'm just glad to know that I'm not alone in this!! I know this us journey we are going though together I must say that I'm working on all of these issues.
