This Board and the people who belong to it are some of my dearest friends now. You can find as much or as little as you need or want here. Just the fact that you know you need more, is good. Never be ashamed to come here and tell us what you need

Susie:

I know the feeling. I purposefully didn't tell anyone I was thinking about surgery except the guy I was dating at the time. I did this because I knew other people won't support me and/or have their opinions whether I wanted to hear them or not. Choosing weight loss surgery was the BEST decision I made and I did it for me.

Please know we are all here for you and will be able to provide you with all the support you need if you would like it.

All the best,
Chanel

Thank you Chanel.
I really needed this feedback from all of you.
I feel that it is the best decision I've made also...
and I made it for me and no one else.
I appreciate your support. Susie

I was in about the same situation as you when I had my surgery.  My mom tried to talk me out of it because she didn't understand.  I didn't tell any other family members, co-workers and only a couple of friends because I didn't want to hear any negativity.  My boyfriend was completely supportive and continues to be my biggest cheerleader.  (I didn't find out till after my surgery that he wanted me to have it because he was worried about my health.  He kept it to himself for a year.)  I freely tell people about it now---I figure it's a good opportunity to educate people.  My mom is completely onboard now and is happy for me.

Stay strong and do what you need to do to get healthy.  Hang out here on the board with us---the people on here are just amazing!!!

I told anyone who would listen that I was having surgery.  I was lucky to only have one person give me true negative feedback.  BUT, now that she sees how well I have done, she is happy for me and keeps an eye out when she can for what I am doing.  My mom didn't live long enough to see me lose any weight, unfortunately.  My dad was there in the beginning and he and his wife were concerned about it, but asked a lot of questions so they would be educated.  My father passed away at the end of September so he won't see me at goal, but he did see me through some of the hardest times in the beginning.  I have friends who help me out and ask me what I want to eat if I am going to be having dinner with them.  Or, they'll make sure there is something on the table that I can eat.

Other than that and truly my MAIN support is right here on this board.  I never would have gotten as far as I have without the wonderful people in PA.  Everyone here has been so great through the whole process, especially now when I am struggling with a terrible stall.

Glad you have your husband there for you.  I only live with my daughter and sometimes it's hard for her to understand why I only eat so much and why she can't have the same old junk she is used to having.  We are here for you for anything you need!!!   So use us and abuse us!! I know I do

I do feel that this board will end up being my main support also.
So happy that you are all so very receptive.
You seem to be doing well in your journey...

My husband came around right before surgery-- about 9 months into my process, lol.  I told my Mom as she lives near me and my inlaws, and one Aunt who I see every few weeks.  I did not tell the rest of my family who live out of state and rarely see me.  I will tell them, in person, when I see them next but did not want to worry them, etc.  I did, however, write letters to each just in case something happened in surgery.

I decided that I did not want the unsolicited opinions, the food watchers, etc.  Since the surgery I have shared with some coworkers and close friends and pretty much everyone is really supportive.  Interestingly enough, my personal trainer is the one who keeps asking how I am, etc. and commenting that I must be really lucky to be doing so well as everyone she knows who had the surgery had awful complications, reversals, etc.

Hang in there.  Lean on yourself and your husband and come here when you need to!
