Vitamin question
Hi all.. I am having the bruising problem again. It seems that I am bruised just about everywhere that has fat left from when I was doing all that scratching a few weeks ago. My legs are all bruised up, my lower back, etc. My chest and arms seem ok, but there isn't much fat left there.. weird. I look like someone really gave me a beating. It's awful.
So, I looked online and found that other than iron, I could be deficient in vitamin C, K (potassium) and/or zinc. I checked out what I already take and found the following:
my calcium has 40 mg of K
multi has 25 mcg of K, 90 mg of C and 11 mg of zinc
b-complex has 300 mg of C
What would be good dosage of these vitamins to help bring the levels up to where they should be? Where should they be is my question, I guess.
I am trying to add oranges into my diet. I don't think I want to do OJ, seems like a waste of calories and G-d knows, I don't need to add any more liquid calories to my diet.

Check out the blog. There is more vitamin info than you could ever imagine. And there is a list of recommended vitamins and dosages for each type of surgery.
When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
Lisa,
With "unexplained bruising" I'd also strongly suggest a call to your doc and getting some blood work done. It can always be something unrelated to your surgery... and that would also tell you quickly which vitamins might be the culprit if it is vitamin-related. You don't want to play around with potential bleeding issues - there can be too many complications.

Lisa I agree with Karen, you should go see your PCP if you don't want to see your surgeon. Get your blood work done. When was the last time you had your blood work done? We have ours done every three months for the first year. I don't think you should be playing with this. You need a professional to diagnose and treat you.
Good luck...
Deb
I didn't read everyone's replies but I would call and get your surgeon to order a full metabolic panel. I just had mine done and am waiting on the results. I wouldn't try to "self medicate" through this one.
I should have scanned and copied the list that they have me do - it was 12 vials of blood and about 20 tests. They need to check all the vitamin and mineral levels, CBC, all that fun stuff.
Good luck sweetie!

I agree with the others -- call the doctor! And if it were me, I'd call my PCP and NOT my surgeon. As much as I love my surgeon, she is a professional cutter and not an internist or even an endocrinologist, and in matters like this, I prefer to get care from my internist or endo. Just my 2 cents. I'm sure there are many who will disagree.
I got a PM from someone who agreed with you all about not supplementing without checking with my doc. I have an appointment with my PCP today while the bruises are still there.
She suggested I get a Partial Thrombosplastin Time and Prothrombin Time test done. She said they are bleeding tests to check for clotting and anemia and such. I will also ask them to order a CBC and the complete metabolic panel.
So, I'm off to the doc today and will probably be going for blood work tomorrow.
Thank you all again! This is why I love you guys.
Oh, I bought vitamin C anyway because I need to add it in with the iron.
