I am in alot of pain, moving standing hurts the stomach muscles pull. I am having trouble getting down the protein grape and lemonade drink they taste awful.. sugar free things are soo sweet it is so weird.. I dont feel dif when i drink or enything biut I knwo there is a pouch there and i take it all slow. I am up and moving, doing my breathing treatments which I hate *L..
any helpful hints I would love to hear.. my friend Joan did well too she was soo sweet, I actually went in before her , hers was late and in the recovery room she was doing well I was not and I could here her talking to me adn telling me i made it and i was going to be ok, she was like an angel it was such a blessing..
Welcome home and welcome to the losers' bench!!! Sorry to hear you're having pain. Each day gets better!!! Keep moving---walking helps to get the gas moving. Don't worry about meeting water and protein goals just yet---that takes time and again will improve each day. Try to stay hydrated. Walk walk walk and sip sip sip!
I remember being sick of sweet things early on too. Try sipping on some broth. The only thing I wanted to drink for a long time was tea, hot or cold. Nothing else tasted good. I found that popsicles really helped too. Things may start tasting better to you. Our tastes can change from the surgery, and I think the anesthesia changes our tastes a bit in the beginning too.
Glad to hear that Joan did well!!! How wonderful that she could encourage you while in recovery!!!

Welcome home!
I know you hate the breathing and walking hurts - but keep doing it and do it more often then they suggest if you can. It will help the healing and help you feel better!
A lot of the protein stuff tastes nasty after surgery. You're not expected to get all your protein in from the first few days out, but you MUST keep trying. I basically thought of it as "medicine" that I HAD to take to feel better.
Hang in there - each day gets better a little bit at a time

did anyone else have the sadness when your family was eating I can smell the food and it smells amazaing and I actually have cried .. I dont think I am even hungry its weird .. I feel like an idiot..
Dr. Dimarco was my surgeon too and he's my hero. He's an angel that gave me a second chance at life. I can so relate to the sad feelings about the smell of food and seeing your family eating etc. Went thru the same thing - it actually took me a few months of mourning the loss of my faithful companion, food. I was by turns angry, sad, depressed.... even though I was nauseous and for the first 4 months, I was STILL was half crazy from missing food; I can now see how addicted I was. But oh Jen! You are going to start feeling so much better, and relatively quickly too. I have a 3 yr old granddaughter, and could pretty much just sit and watch her before. Now Nana is out there playing kickball, hide n seek, swinging, walking around parks, going to Inner Harbor and also swimming and doing Zumba.... sometimes I feel like crying with happiness in Zumba because I used to dream that in heaven, I'd be normal weight and be able to run and fly - and here I am (still on earth!) and suddenly able to fully live and enjoy my family and grandchild! In just 10 months!
My sons are grown now, but every time they see me now, they give me a big hug and say how glad they are to see me happy and healthy again. I have this constant, huge grin now, that won't go away!
