I also know tht I have to work thought what I'm going throught right now!
I was also wonder is it common sometimes for WLS people to get depressed sometimes? I have never had it but I know that warming sings of depresson
I knwo that I need to talk with someone as well that iswhy when I see the docs I'm going to aks them to ref me to someone aswell! I also know that even at home I have to work throught issues that I'm having here as well
SO here is what I started to do even force myself to do these things I have an orchid that needed to be transplanted so I DID that over the weekend, I washed my betting and took it down stairs to the dryer cleaned my bedroom, I did get up at 930am this moring but could not get oob to go to the gym so tomorrow I will have to force myself to do so I guess.
I also that I have great support on here as well!
I'm also thinking of going back on the south beach diet that I was on for my pre-opt diet I love it alot and lost quite bit of weight doing that! AS I said before I have been shoving food in my mouth so I don't snap on people not good I guess I just need to start stating how I feel what's ******g me off etc! I have also learned that when tv ads come on to change the channel or get up walk out of the room so I DON'T see food ads if I'm online or watching tv I think I need to eat that I just get up walk away I'm even thiking I need to start to chew gum I'm even starting to suck on hard candy too any ideas would be great!
I'm also looking for ne hobbies any ideas?
I'm even crocheting more to help me as well I'm trying to plan some trips for my weekends off and even days off but what dose not help the price of gas!

Nicki,
It's good to have a chat with your surgeon and your PCP about the depression. I do think there are several things that can contribute to it in conjunction with WLS:
1. Release of estrogen stored in fat cells. In addition to the estrogen your body is still naturally producing, you're getting a "flood" of it from the fat cells that you're shedding. If depression is part of PMS for you, guess what... and even if it's not, the mood shifts can be truly amazing.
2. Anxieties and insecurities about your changing body. Yep, we all want to look and feel great, but there were reasons why we got fat. Taking away the fat without addressing the reasons it was there is guaranteed to cause anxiety, depression, self-sabotage, and other things. For me, it's a complicated bag that I'm still rooting through (and will be for some time), but I am conscious that I was using my fat to hide from the world and from attention that I didn't know what to do with. Now that it's gone, I'm having to learn / relearn how to deal with that attention and those interactions.
3. Changing relationships. It's sad, but sometimes people pull away from us as we change, for a ton of reasons. Some are insecure, some see our changes as "judgement" of their lack of change, others are going through points in their own loves where they can't be around someone who is successing and "glowing." That can leave us feeling abandoned, bereft, and betrayed. It also removes sometimes critical people from our support systems.
You're working through it in some very good ways - forcing yourself to accomplish even small tasks reinforces your activity and productivity. Planning to (and carrying through with) talking to your docs is great - and I would suggest making an appointment with a WLS-friendly therapist as well. GET TO THE GYM!!! Nothing is better for depression than a good round of cardio - releases all kinds of wonderful brain chemicals that support your mood!
Be careful with the hard candy, though - it DOES contain carbs (sometimes quite a lot of them) and too much of the artificial sweeteners can be hard on the tummy. Some docs (mine included) prohibit gum altogether (too much risk if you swallow it accidentally)... others are a little more lenient - but BE CAREFUL and don't swallow it!!! (it will get stuck and might require surgery to remove it.) Much better to nibble on a carrot or celery stick or beef jerky if you really need to chew something!
I hope this helps! You're not alone and this group will undoubtedly chime in with some good suggestions for you. Keep us in the loop!
HUGS!
Karen
