Distended Abdomen
hello PA, long time no post.
So, lately, I'd say over the past 2 weeks and maybe it has happened 4 or 5 times, my abdomen gets obscenely distended after I eat something. Generally it's uncomfortable, but not painful.
Last night however I was out to dinner and had 1/2 a small house salad and a few spoons of onion soup when all of a sudden I puffed up like I was 9 months pregnant and the pain was almost unbearable. I drove myself home feeling like I had to barf or fart or all of the above and once I got home and laid down it subsided.
My assumption is that it's just really bad gas (even though I don't actually pass any) but I'm slighlty worried that perhaps it's the start of something worse.
Anyone have any experience with this or ideas?
Thanks,
M

Hmmm...it sounds like gas to me....the salad and onion soup both can cause gas so maybe that's why it was so severe?
I'd put a call out to the doc anyway....it may be with our newer smaller bodies we didn't differentiate extra gas or bloating because we always felt big anyway....that's just a guess
Glad you are feeling better this morning

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Pam, I would agree but I barely ate anything and it was instant MEGA bloat. I would think it would take a little time for carbs to break down and create gas. This like I said was instantaneous.
Of course google is an evil thing and I google sudden onsent bloating or distended belly I get tons of crap on obstructions. woo hoo.

guess I'll be tracking down Dr. Marymor and ask him his thoughts.

I shall keep you posted.

An obstruction crossed my mind as well....it could have resolved on its own...like mine did back in july of 08 but mine took hours and hours and hours to resolve and I was in intense pain where I could do nothing but be doubled over on the couch or over the bowl dry heaving in these horrible spasms until hubby literally picked me up and took me to the er because I couldn't walk.
Veggies don't take much time to break down and cause gas, hence products like beano and the like, although the severness of it in this instance was a bit much. But that's why
