So - I am finally getting my backside in gear and writing everything down - well, inputting it as the case may be - into Sparkpeople.com - Thanks Karen - and things look good - my only issue is that I can't find my Barix bible with the goals and things.  I remember what my protein golas are and am happy to say that as long as I have one protein drink a day, I am meeting that goal!  I don't remember what it said about fats, carbs, and so on.  Was all that standard to everyone, or was that on an individal basis as the protein was?  UGH!  I am sooo close to getting it together - and of course, it is after 5 - so even if I call Barix, no one will call me bac****il tomorrow.  So, I thought I would ask you wonderful people first!

Thanks! :)

Steffi, I think fats and carbs vary for each person. I don't remember discussing carbs with them, but I know I'm not to have more than 11 g fat per meal. My protein goal is 68g per day. Not sure if that helps you at all.

Good for you!

Carbs were never mentioned to me.  It was always just "protein first, veggies second, whole grains if any, last"  They didn't give me a number on the carbs...and from what I remember most people said that they would only get a number on carbs if they "pressed" the staff for a number.

As far as fats go...I don't know how different it is for everyone...but mine was no more than 10gm in a sitting, and no more than 40gm in a day, regardless of how much was in a sitting.

Oh - and my protein goal was 70gm (which is based on height/weight) until I began maintaining at which point it was dropped down to 50

Steffi,

The fats and cals were individual.  For example, my protein range is 78-105 per day, my fat range is 24-48, and my cals average about 1200.  They would not give me carb ranges, but from discussions "offline" with one of the nuts and with some of the more experienced folks, I've set myself a carb range that mimics my protein range (the lower end of protein being the high end of carb range).  So far that seems to be working - I know other people can't go that high on carbs, though, so it seems very individualized... and also depends on what TYPE of carbs.

One thing to be aware of is that sparkpeople does NOT calculate "net carbs" for you - so if you have a food that is high in fiber and has a high carb number, you'll want to make that adjustment yourself when you input that food, or you can just take the higher carb number as a way of keeping yourself honest - whichever works for you.

Hope this helps -and I hope you find your barix bible - it's got a LOT of cool stuff in it, and every time I look at it I'm amazed how much is still relevant and helpful to me.

If I had a Barix Bible, I would give you mine.

But I don't......sorry.

And I don't have suggestions. Back in the day of my surgery, only protein goals were mentioned. Everything else I make up along the way. and you don't want the "Jodi Bible", it comes with baggage, *****ing, and bad habits...........

Hope you find yours.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
