Ok I need some help/advice.  I had my surgery in Oct (Gastric bypass) and I still can't find something that I can eat that I can tolerate.  I can do the protein shakes, yogurt, mashed potatoes,  but whenever I try tuna fish, chicken, eggs or anything I just get so sick in the stomach and I throw it up after 5 minutes of eating it.  I eat slow, I chew 20-30 times I am doing everything my NUT told me to do.  I go next week for my check up but was hoping someone else had this problem and could give me some answers/advice before I go.  I am getting very discouraged and frustrated.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

OK first of all - I felt that way for almost 6 months - torture - YES! Worth it - YES!!!!!

THe three things that you listed (fish, chicken, eggs) are things that are STILL touch and go with me almost 3 years later! Eggs and chicken especially. Try some ground meat (beef) if this is part of the "approved stage" you are at now (since you are several months out I'd say that isn't an issue anymore).

You did have major surgery and everyone heals differently and at different rates, it might just take your pouch a little longer to get adjusted.

Also watch your quantities and make sure that the food is super moist.

Definately bring it up to your surgeon, but my guess is all is OK.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I haven't had any problems like this and we had surgery the same week, but it's definitely something you need to mention to your surgeon. I wouldn't wait until the appointment next week. Are you drinking when you eat? Are you taking small bites? I think you're far enough out that you can try a variety of high protein foods. Give your body time to adapt and don't give up. You may be able to tolerate those foods again later. I noticed you mentioned this problem on the message boards before, but I hope you're able to get it resolved. Good luck to you.

I also had my surgery in October.  I cannot eat meat, fish, like you within 5 minutes I'm vomiting.

My surgeon sent me to see a gastro doc and I'm scheduled for an Upper Endoscopy the end of this month.  They are checking to see if my stoma has too much scar tissue building up, if so they will use a balloon to gently open me up a little bit more.

If not I'll be eating eggs and lots of Tofu until my pouch is ready for meat and fish.  I get in most of my protein by shakes, yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, beans, and Tofu....I've become pretty creative making protein rich foods I can eat without meat.

I threw up alot in the beginning.

Eggs were the first thing I could tolerate.

Tuna was next.

It was a LONG time until I could tolerate chicken.

I hope you get some answers at your appt. I am sorry you are having trouble keeping things down.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I threw up daily for a year, mostly I think because I ate to fast (even though I had convinced myself I ate slowly)

Sometimes chicken still makes me throw up. Make sure it's not too dry or over cooked.
