I recently underwent Gastric Bypass. Now my mind is going through many changes. I feel that my body wiggles now, I feel I am not eating enough, When I do eat I think my stomach is feeling upset...I know many people have had this experience but I sure would like some words of encouragement and maybe some suggestion.

Shelly,

You're about 2 months out from your surgery, right?  I know at that point it felt like EVERYTHING was "loose" and "crunchy" as the fat was dropping off me but the skin hadn't caught up.  I started using a firming cream (neutrogena firming gel) and massaging it into my real problem areas twice a day - i think the massage part of it helped to break up those cellulite "crunchies" (over time - like a couple of months) because now they're really pretty much gone.  I do still have loose skin and will have it unless I have plastics at some point in my distant future... but that skin is getting less over time and as I develop muscle tone from exercise, some of the "void" left by the former fat is getting replaced by nice lean muscle (which takes up the slack in the skin).  NONE of this is a quick process, though!

As to how much you're eating, it might help to post your food journal here and to let us know how your nutrients map to the targets your surgeon gave you on a daily basis.  Are you meeting your protein goals daily?  Your fat and calorie goals?  How much (and what types) of exercise are you doing?    Seeing what you're eating, quantities and nutrients may help some of us on the board point to potential "problem areas."

Also - what does your surgeon and nutritionist say about your upset feeling after eating?  Is it after eating everything or just after certain foods?  or certain quantities? or specific times of the day?

Welcome to the board, by the way - we'll be happy to try and help!  And we have plenty of encouragement to offer!

A lot of what you describe sounds normal for where you are at in your recovery.  I struggled with a prissy pouch for a long time, and had to be very careful what I ate.  If you are taking your vitamins, and getting enough water, the amount of food will not be an issue for you.  Make sure you make your protein goals, and journal your food for the nutritionist or surgeon.

The wiggly feeling is also normal, or it was for me anyway.  Things do begin to feel normal, eventually.

Congrats on making it to the Losers' Bench.

Hugs,
Trish

Yup - your body IS wiggling - and it's going to!  Definately if you haven't started an exercise regimen as of yet do so now.  Not only do you need cardio, you absolutely need strength training like weights and what not.  It won't help all the jiggling and extra skin - but it will help a good amount of it.

As far as "not eating enough" what are you using as a guide for that?  What you used to eat pre op?  Or your nutritional guidelines given to you after surgery?  Are you documenting/planning what you are eating?  If you are not keeping track of what and when you are eating - be sure to start that.  I didn't really "believe" in that before surgery (on countless diets I was on) but after wards - it's become an invaluable tool for me.  Espcially early out, it was the ONLY way I could determine how much protein etc I was eating.  Remember eating very small very frequent meals/snacks are key.  Most surgeons/nuts instruct 5-6 small meals a day.  That works out to be every 2-3 hours.

You may notice you are not "hungry" which is totally normal - you will need to eat by the "clock" per say.  Plan your meals and snacks for set times and stick to it.

"prissy pouch" which is what some of us call it when your newly created pouch feels yucky after eating is common.  Especially early out and especially when going through different food stages.  Measure your food.  Eat SLOWLY.  It should take you a good 20 mins or so to eat even just a few ounces of yogurt early out.  And further out your meals should still take you 20-30 mins to eat.  Something I was never good at doing and still find myself rushing and feeling yucky afterwards.

Hang in there - it gets better!
