question on fat

Hi all,

I have a quick question on fat.  Are two breakfast sausages okay to eat?  They have 19g of fat per serving.  If my overall fat intake for a day is 20-25% is it ok that a single serving has that much fat?

Thanks for your input.

I've had sausage on occasion, jus****ch your fat intake for the day. Also, it  might not agree with your pouch. You can get some really good chicken or turkey sausages too

Geoff,

I try to spread my fat pretty equally over a typical day.  For some people, eating that much fat in a single serving can cause dumping - for others, it's not a problem.  If you're in the second category, as long as you restrict the rest of your fat intake that day so that you remain in your recommended range, you should be fine....  BUT, keep in mind that most of that fat is saturated (i.e., "bad") fat, so you really want to limit how often you eat stuff like that.

As Liz mentioned, if you like sausage, there are some really good alternatives in chicken sausage, turkey sausage and even the Boca (and other brand) meatless sausages.

Good luck!

My guidelines from my nut/surgeon were always:

no more than 10gm of fat in a serving and no more than 35-40gm of fat per day.

I'm not saying I don't have more than 10gm of fat in a serving ever, goodness knows I DO...but I definately watch it for the rest of the day.

I do like some of the chicken sausages that are out there.  Although - sometimes just the real deal will do!
