Ok a not so quick update

Well...as you can probably guess from the flurry of responses I just went through mentally/emotionally  I'm feeling a little better.  Things are not perfect...but as I expected...I needed time to process a bunch of things and get a game plan.

Physically - sheesh!  I woke up yesterday (Tuesday) at about 1pm after going to bed at 7:30am with a horrific sore throat and no voice.  I called out not because of the throat thing...but because it's really difficult to talk to patients when you can't talk, LOL  I physically felt fine except for the sore throat.  Spent the evening at home resting...watching tv with hubby...blah blah blah.  It was a great evening.

Woke up at 2:30 am because I out of no where started wheezing and had rhonchi...think like course "bubbles" in my chest sound.  Weird thing was I had absolutely no trouble breathing...except for taking a deep breath.  It wasn't an asthma attack and I don't have asthma anyway.  I also still couldn't speak.  I tried a few things at home...sitting in the hot steamy shower...going outside (yea, that SUCKED at 12 degrees lemme tell you) and alternating the two every 10-15 mins with no avail.  So I went to the ER....apparantly have "acute viral bronchitis with laryngo-broncho spasms" X ray looked clear.  Oxygen levels were 100% on room air which is as high as you can get and also helped to rule out the whole asthma aspect.  It took 3 albuterol/atrovent nebulizer treatments and 60mg of prednisone to get the spasms to subside.  I had my voice and almost no wheezing (all of that took about 1 1/2 hours to do) when I left.

My voice is coming and going as it sees fit.  I physically feel fine, although I did notice some fatigue.  I was put on the steroids for four days, up the fluids, warm fluids like soup and tea, an inhaler not for asthma control but again for inflammation control all to help the spasms.  They also gave me an antibiotic (zpack) "just in case"  We're all pretty sure it's viral based on how quick it came on...but there's no definitive way to say that.  Oh, and pepcid due to the steroids for the pouch.

Brian talked to his mom....I attempted to talk to his dad today but there were communication difficulties (IE:  he couldn't hear me and my squeaky voice)  Brian relayed a few messages....there's still a LOT more talking to be done and what not and we need to revisit some ground rules we had set that (and this is brian talking here) "we didn't enforce" etc etc etc.  I'm sure things won't be perfect all the time....but we'll get there.

In the meantime...I got some more work done around the house...I placed an order at wegmans for the catering portion of the party....and just over all feel better about everything.  Also found out our new mattress is being delivered monday and our new frame on Wednesday!  We can use the mattress w/o the frame - it'll just be low to the ground for two nights....so I'm uber excited about that prospect.

Thanks again, as always.  I appreciated every word every single one of you said, and your thoughts and prayers.

Pam.

I'm SO glad you posted - you "sound" so much better and less overwhelmed.  HUGS, still!

And remember - mattress on the floor means no squeaking - haha!  Break that puppy IN!

As to the family drama, yep, the ground rules (and ENFORCING them) definitely help and it's so great that you and Brian are a united front on this.  Good for you.  Insist on the respect that you both so much deserve. And don't be afraid to 'walk away' if they are incapable of giving it to you.

Pam, some of us process things with words, and it helps just to get it out! I'm glad things are looking up.

Karen's note about the mattress made me laugh - literally! But hey - I second the motion!

It made me laugh, too.  Assuming I'm not wheezing and bubbling it will have to happen.  The wheezing I think would probably be a turn off.  He LOVES star wars but hopping into bed with Darth Vader may not be his style, LOL
