Pregnancy after weight loss surgery

Well, well, well, I have been hoping, praying and trying for years to get pregnant again.  I had my surgery 7 months ago and lost a total of 88 pounds.  Last month I found out I am pregnant.  I am BEYOND thrilled, however I am left wondering how this impacts any further progress on my weight loss.  Has anyone else gotten pregnant so soon after surgery?  Once baby is born will I continue to lose weight and eventually reach the goal I would have made had I not gotten pregnant?  Other than exhausted, I feel really good.  I think the surgery has made it so that morning sickness isn't an issue this time around.  I was so sick when I was pregnant with my son.  I'm not the slightest bit sick this time around...at least not yet.

Please, if anyone has been through this, please tell me what to expect.  Once baby is finally here can I expect to continue with my weight loss or is this it.  Will the surgery continue working for me or am I now on my own.  Will I have to go back to struggling in order to lose weight?  Am I expected to gain as much as I would normally have gained during this pregnancy now that I've had the surgery?  Any and all comments would be appreciated.  THANK YOU!!!!

WEll congrats first of all!!

I am much further out (almost 3 years) and 19 weeks pregnant. You will need to make a few changes, start eating carbs - you need to stay out of ketosis (this has similar effects on fetal development as alcohol), if you aren't already switch to a prenatal vitamin in place of your multi, add in folic acid and calcium. Also call your surgeon and get your labs drawn - keep a close eye on your vitamin levels - it was recommended to me to have them checked every few months.

As far as the weight loss I've heard it going both ways. Some people can get right back on track and back to loosing and others have to work much harder for it. I've been reminded that you really aren't eating for 2 lol. Also - eat healthfully - little junk food and you'll be fine.

My OB said that I can expect to gain about 25-30 pounds. In the first weeks I lost 15 pounds and am only back up4 since then - so still down 11 pounds. I do have to eat about every 1 1/2 -2 hours. Oh and the Surgeon and OB want me between 1800-2000 calories a day with 90 grams of protein and 100 grams of carbs.

Hope that all this helps and you have a happy and healthy pregnancy!! Oh and I really hope that the morning sickness stays far away! I had it really bad up to about 12 weeks.

Congrats!  If you haven't already, check out the pregnancy board here on OH.  I haven't been on there in AGES but when I was there were a bunch of women with really good advice.
Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
