Malitol

Question for the bakers:
OK, I've been reading all the posts about this sugar substitute and now I want to try it.  Where do you find it?  Can you get it at a Giant's (or regular grocer store) and is it in with the other sugars?
I have not been very successful with Splenda or DiabetiSweet (which I think leaves a terrible aftertaste).
Thanks and happy holidays to everyone,
Eileen

Eileen - the Malitol comes from netrition.com - it is a flat rate of $4.95 for shipping. There are 2 brands - Steel's and Sensato, Sensato is less expensive. Oh and usually if you order it today you'll have it tomorrow!

LOVE the stuff!!

Ditto to what Liz said.

They have three kinds...regular (as in white sugar), brown, and powdered.  I love 'em all so far!  And I'm with you on the diabetisweet - I too can taste the aftertaste, although not everyone can.

Pam,
Thanks so much for the info.  I will try all three.  I've been ordering my syrups from Netrition, so will place an order today for the malitol.
I hope you have a wonderful Holiday and get a chance to take some time to relax.

I've been using the malitol in my baking and really like it.  Haven't cracked open the powdered yet, but I'm sure I will soon.  I don't like DiabetiSweet either---hate the aftertaste.

Thanks, Julia.  I'm going to try all three.  The other substitutes just haven't cut it for me.
Happy holidays,

Eileen, be a little careful on your first journey with maltitol. It can have a laxative effect and can also cause gas. So...small portions! (Trust me!)

Ditto to what Lynn said!  A few of us have found out the hard way just because it's "safe" doesn't mean we can eat a whole lot of it!  Spent a lot of time walking some gas pains off and in and out of the potty room!

This may be dumb question..but I am going to ask anyway. I usually don't bake, is this the best solution for baking. I now use splenda or equal will I be able to use them in tea after surgery?
