fluid intake
Having trouble getting my fluid in. Can only take so many ice pops. I can tolerate crushed ice, bu****er gives me pain, not sure maybe its gas? Have tried hot teas, can get some down. I am starting to get scared, I don't want dehydration to be an issue. I may have to put off my next phase till I can overcome these issues. Any suggestions are welcome. I used to be able to use crystal light tea, but now can't stand the aftertaste of the sweetener.
Thanks Ena

Have you tried changing the temp of the water? Many find especially earlier out that they need room temp and/or warm fluids. I know some people, although the "mouth feel" of room temp water is nasty (myself included), they drank it that way so their pouch didn't hurt.
Also...crystal lite. Try making it really light.
Or make your own decaf iced tea (again - you may need to drink it not "iced" but just room temp.
Also, experiment with different sized "bottles"/glasses. Nan was the one who suggested this to me early out. For instance...a regular water bottle felt to her like she was sucking more air than she was fluid, and a drinking glass felt like she was "drowning" and she found a snapple bottle to be "just right" to quote goldilocks, LOL
And if you want an idea to judge small amount of sipping....get a medicine cup...something that is marked with "30ml" on it (normally comes with things like Robitussin etc) If you drink 4 of them an hour (approximatley 1 every 15 mins) you will have a total of 64 ounces of fluid in 16 hours. A little cumbersome...but you'll get an idea as to how much you are taking in/how much you need to sip etc.
Hang in there - it gets much easier most of the time!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Thanks Pam. Maybe using a different size container will make it go easier. I will try some decaf teas I bought and see if that works. I had bought shot glasses that were marked in oz, tsp, etc, maybe that's what I need to go back to, I will give all these a try. We are going to Disney in three weeks and I need to get it together before we leave, to get into a routine. Thanks Ida for the decaf coffee idea.

I still have trouble with water, especially cold water. Powerade Zero has helped me a lot. I take a bottle of it and dilute it 50/50 with water (or sometimes 25% powerade, 75% water) and then I drink it when it's around room temperature. The grape flavor is my favorite.
I know a lot of people like Crystal Light, but I can't stand the taste of anything with aspartame so I drink the 4C Totally Light 2 Go instead. Same basic principle -- drink mix in a tube -- but with splenda instead of aspartame. I add more water to it than it calls for, and again, I don't like it ice cold but I can drink it.
Hope this helps!

Gene has tried all the suggestions made by both you and Pam.
Lately we've been experimenting with a sippy cup. While he's exercising he is able to drink the water from a sippy cup, but if he is just sitting the water causes sometimes unbearable pain. No matter what the temperature of the water.
He's been to a gastro doc to try to figure this out and so far no reasonable explination only experimentation.
